nah, everyone passes out by 3am...

figure, with night time starting at 6pm, midnight seems like an eternity...

plus most of the campsites only fit two trucks per campfire area, so we will be spread out enough that you can sleep in peace...

except for those of us who snore like bears...

I'm going to bring my 4 year old son so I'll just be chillin'. He's been dying to go out with me. So now that he's more independent, he can roll with me. He was pissed the last time we were in Barstow because I wouldn't drive my truck on the actual race track.

Last year it was windy and effin cold. My tent was blowing in the wind and I couldn't sleep. I'd suggest taking ear plugs if you're a light sleeper.

If anyone is interested I might have a lot of firewood for free. You just need to pick it up. Let me know if you're interested.

What's the group's average speed for this trip? I have a stock 4x4 TRD OR and I've been told I drive like a grandpa in the dirt.

The guys with LT will haul ass and will get a few miles ahead of the slower guys. I was the slowest guy last time and they would eventually pull over and shoot the shlt while they waited for me. The good thing about this trip is all trucks can drive it. Last time, one of the guys has his stock Dunlops on his truck and he did fine. The hardest part for me was the whoops. I was doing 10-15mph while the LT guys can do 40mph+ through there. Other than the whoops you'll be fine and be able to keep up.

I'll probably go on this one, I'll know for sure 1 week in advance. All I need now is a Race Radio.

Mike, what brand of radio do you have?

a lot of us are running the Icom V8000...

you can find it on ebay...

if you want to pick it up locally, you can hit up Hassim at Engage Offroad to see if he has any left...

average speed is between 15 and 20 mph...

the LT guys will likely be hitting 45 to 60 mph...

we make a lot of stops though to take pics, piss, talk smack, and make out, so even if you fall behind, you will catch up...

it helps to have the race radio though in case you break down or get a flat, cuz it could take up to an hour before we notice you aren't there, turn around, and backtrack...

the list for this run is growing, so we should have plenty of beer and good times to go around...

as its looking, we will spend friday night at mid hills campground, then end up at Stateline in time for lunch on saturday...

a good size part of the crew is going to stop in Barstow saturday night and camp out at Barstow Main, so if anyone wants to just come out saturday afternoon and chill, you are welcome to join up...

I keep looking at this thread and it sucks knowing I can't go. No spare, no radio, and no coilovers. :( I was hoping to use my bonus check to acquire most of the parts but these random ass bills/expenses keep coming up. When is the next one?, you said you guys do it 2x a yr.

You can probably get away without the radio and coilovers but you definitely need a spare. Last year we had one guy that didn't have any radio communication and he did good. You just need to stay with a group. I only have a CB and the first day I didn't have any comms with anyone. The second day Mike joined us and he had a CB. It looks like there's a big enough group going this year so you should be ok. If it were only 2 or 3 trucks then you wouldn't want to go. But it seems like we're going to have over 6 trucks.

This sounds like so much fun, damn if only I had a race radio and an LT kit .. I'm sure its possible doing this run with just stock but it wouldn't be as much fun

There's a lot to see out there and no matter what speed you go, it's still fun. I don't have LT and I'm going. The only section where you really have to slow down is the whoops but other than that, you'll be fine.

you can pick up a race radio for as low as $130 at Ham Radio Outlet...

5 gallon gas cans are $11 at Target...

seeing the beauty of the Mojave Desert in a way most can only think about, priceless...

ok... trip is 2 weeks away...

gonna start to compile the official list soon...

    ********** UPDATE AS OF 4/12/2010 **********

There will be 2 parts to this run. The original crew will be heading out friday morning and camping out at Mid Hills Campground.

I will be leading a second crew early Saturday morning to rendezvous with the first crew at the campgrounds.

If you wanted to see the Mojave Desert but were initially unable to camp out, this is your opportunity to make the second half of the run.

Reply to this thread or PM me by Friday afternoon for meet up details.
