What kind of gear oil do I use for the rear end

 

Maybe put that question in your post title. You'll likely get a quicker response.

 

I'm about to do mine with 75w90.

 

The owner's manual says 80w-90 for the rear differential, but

75w-90 can be used too

$925 for what exactly? Getting all your fluids changed? That's insane if so....I hope that came with some anal lube

The diffs, t-case and manual trans are the easiest DIY jobs for these trucks, you don't have to know anything about anything to get them done. Just unscrew the fill plug and the drain plug, drain then fill. Don't even have to lift the truck if you have a Prerunner or 4x4, just crawl under. Not counting doing the motor oil, you're probably only looking at < hundred bucks in cost of gear oil and a hand pump to get it done.

Pretty sure the auto trans is nearly as simple as well if all you're doing is a drain and fill.

 

I've used 75w90 in my diffs and tcase since it was new.

 

I'd use 75w90 in an OTC synthetic, like Mobil 1, and increase the recommended OCI by 50% if it meets the 'normal duty' criteria.

 

Yeah... quite expensive, I quote 2 shop places , one small mechanic shop, new in town with good reputation so far and decent prices told me around $1,000.00 to change all kind of fluids with KT fluids and Toyota dealer 925.00 with these Synthetic BG products,, fuel injection cleaning, radiator flush , power sterring, transmition, brake fluids, etc ,... etc every kind of fluid , check the link , they use they're on BG equipment to do all the flushes and , been less than 75K you get insured 1K- 2K if anything goes wrong with the systems with those fluids as long as you keep them flush every 30K interval..., since I pulled a muscle in my back and have zero mechanical skills... oh well ... it got done by Toyota Dealer.....CHECK the BG products link and VIDEOS, quite of impressive if all that promised is true.. so far I can tell it runs smooth as silk.
