Toyota makes Fish Tanks

Here's a tip. If you own a 2016, grab a hose and see if your 3rd Brake light is leaking. Apparently I'm not the only incident. Who knows how long it's been going on? But, Toyota gave authorization to replace the 3rd Brake light, which did happen on 10, July, 17. However, the dealership has been a crapshoot! Customer service on a Corporate level only wants to shampoo it. And that still leaves me stuck holding an unclean car fax.
Moreover, the dealership told me "we don't make the truck, sir!", sent me to Enterprise w/o an RO, but claimed they had it reserved. There's some good vids of it I just have to figure out how to load them.

Wouldn't the carfax if even reported to it just show that the 3rd brake light was replaced? Nothing seems unclean to me. Things happen. It sucks yeah but things do happen. Bad batch? Bad seal? Corporate says replace and shampoo. Seems good to me.

When you're buying, you're a guest. When you have an issue, you're a pest! Should be their motto. I really had confidence in this corporation. My first truck, when I turned 16, was an 88' SR5 extra cab. It always treated me right. I wanted a new 15' because of their reviews, but none could be located. I figured hey it's Toyota, you pay once, ya cry once. Well, I'm crying a lot lately. Never an issue out of my 13' Sierra, quad cab 4X4.

 

1. Its a known issue. (huge thread on it)
2. Toyota dealers are NOT Toyota
3. Dealers do not manufacture the trucks
4. Unless your truck was submerged in water from a leaky light your carfax will be fine.
5. Replacing the gasket and shampooing seems reasonable. What did you expect Toyota to do... replace the truck?

 

What I expect as a solution, is to replace the affected interior, not shampoo it. It smells! Hey it's a 2016 TRD Off-Road, 6Spd manual. I'd sell it right now for $35K any takers

 

If reported to carfax, it would show it had water damage. That alone would hurt the resale of this vehicle. If I see water damage on a Carfax, I would steer clear just for the potential mold issues that can arise.

 

Truck wasn't submerged or anything like that so I don't see it having water damage on the carfax. Worse case it would mention rear 3rd brake light had a leak and was replaced under warranty.

the shampooing will make all the smells go away.

Let them shampoo it - don't whine about new interiors and what not.


If after shampooing, it still stinks and there are stains, then ask for a new interior.

hiPSI, that's not a bad solution, give me a Tacoma that never had this issue. And they eat the difference, I pick up where I left off. Toyota is supposed to be quality trucks and SUV's I guess that's why I'm having a hard time with this. I definitely talked them up, now, I wish I didn't. And the overall attitude is "oh well".

 

Maybe trade it to get your Sierra back........that'll be easier than finding someone to give you 35k for your moldy TRD.........no dealer of any brand cares after they have your money. Very simple to make a functional gasket yourself too.

Let corporate do their thing and take the shampoo, let it air dry out, then see where you are.

That would depend on what is on the OP's carfax. From the pics the OP listed, to me it looks like copious amounts of water breached into the interior.

 

I also find it funny OP joined today, made his name with fishtank and specifically joined just to be hypersensitive and complain.

I've had family members with worse through a complete leaky rear window instead of just the brake light. The window was repaired, carfax was fine. The water got on the seats and shampooing seats and carpet is easy work for someone with a detail shop. Should clean up fine. It's not like the car was parked and the area flooded up from underneath. That would definitely show as water damage. Time will tell I guess.
