I considered that, but being my DD it is a major wind catch, prevents me from pulling into some parking garages, and is just heavy up there so mpg bleh (not so much a concern). I just wish I had a garage I could hoist it up into but I can't even pull into my tiny garage with it on. Therefore, I want it easy to take on and off and the mt. shasta summit extended extra heavy extra special huge awesome edition just doesn't fit that for me lol. I love it, but had to sell it.

:) understood. I only need something that size because of the family. My Taco is my DD also but I have been lucky so far and not seen a MPG reduction (yet) and have only had one situation where I had a problem pulling into a parking garage. I'll just count myself as luck!
On a side note.. just build a trailer so I can copy what you do haha.

I wish I had the time/money/ability to build a trailer.

I just picked up a 2 gallon for us. I figure that I can just heat a pot of water while my wife is showering. Kinda a PITA for now but it'll do.

    Sry, RTT noob here.

Does anyone know if the annex can be added after-the-fact if you get the CVT Mt Bachelor but don't get the extended version?

Also I'm wondering if the ladder is required for support of the cantilever portion or just for entry. Can you sit in the doorway without the ladder?

I'm going to say yes you can sit there without the ladder, though how did you get there without the ladder?

If I'm not mistaken, isn't the extended version just where the ladder is inside the annex area and under a portion of the roof? So you can have an annex where the ladder is on the outside. I believe every version can have an annex, just depends on which one? I might be wrong. I personally couldn't stand setting up my annex just to have to take it back down the next morning. I won't own another one unless I have a trailer I will leave stationary at the campsite.

You definitely can't sit in the doorway of my CVT (Mt. Rainier) without the ladder. It supports half of the tent as you're describing. Looking at the Mt. Bachelor, I would think it's the same.

I don't think you can add the annex later to a non-extended version. The annex zips up to the outside of the actual extension. You can't see the extension very well in pictures but there's a bent pole frame and additional fabric that slide into your tent for storage. There is additional fabric for it to connect with on the non-extended version. Hope that makes sense.

They sell annexes for the non extended tents. It would just be on the inside of the ladder under the flipped out portion of your tent. The ladder would still be exposed to the elements, but you would have enclosed space underneath your tent. FSR has pictures of non extended tents with annexes I believe.

Smittybilt has an example of what you're talking about...unsure of availability on a CVT Mt. Bachelor.

Showing pic as example to answer @alphabravo inquiry. I've heard decent feedback on their tents. Personally, I don't own one and have never seen one in person. So there's that...
