TIRE Help - What's The Best Aggressive AT C Load Range 265/75/16?

Anyone know where the more popular tires talked about in this thread are made. I'd be more interested in a U.S. made tire. Pretty sure Coopers are U.S. made. Some Goodyears. Don't know about the rest.

Has anyone considered running 235/85/16? Slightly taller than 265 75 and about an inch narrower. Seems like a larger number of options. An st maxx in 235/85E is only 43 pounds.

Do 235s just look goofy?

 

The problem I saw with that size is that my rims are 16x8 and every one I clicked on fit a 6-7.5" rim.

 

I run KO2s in that size (load E), and I know one of our other CO guys does or did. I wouldn't say goofy, but they do look skinny from the front. They also take a little getting used to, as at first they feel unstable/wobbly, or did for me. Went away after a week or two, feel normal now. I went this size because I wanted 255/85 and could no longer find them in the tires I wanted. I came from 265/75 KOs (original, no 2) load Ds, which I would have gotten again but they stopped making them, or at least they weren't available at the time. The one big down side to this size I've noticed so far is rim protection. As in there really isn't any. Sidewalls on the 265/75 made me feel like a rim scrape would be impossible they bulge so much. on the 235s its more like a flat plane, or pretty close to. I've got them on the TRD FJ rims btw, the older ones.

 

Really liking those tires. Did you get the standard load versions?

 

Instead of going with load range C like I did last time, decided to go with Cooper ST Maxx in 265/75/16. They're about 7 lbs difference than the AT3 C Load. Will report back with mpgs if you guys want.

Avg 17 - 18 mpg.
Got the E load because I go off roading where there are plenty of sharp rocks.

Well folks, I am still riding around on stock tires while my rear differential is howling. I'm also no closer than I was when I started to finding the tire I want. I am almost thinking about switching over to a 17" Pro style when like the FN FX PRO. I like the OEM Pro wheels but that leaves me in a 16" with the same limited ions I have now. Does anyone know what the stock Off-Roadwheels weigh? I'm figuring if I can save some weight by switching out wheels it may give me some leeway for tires. Then again, if I got to a 17" tire then I'm likely going with the General Grabber AT2 at 41.7 pounds in SL and not looking back. I also have the option of getting the Duratracs in SL and the SL has a higher max load the C load range. Any help would be appreciated!

Having this tire available in a SL would make switching to a 17 worthwhile.

 

I'm in the research phase still, but this thought has crossed my mind as I really like the skinny look and want to be weight conscious. However, the better option for weight and tire options seems to be going to a 17" wheel. Duratrac 255/75r17 are only 40lb and 17" SCS wheels are 24lb, same as stock OR 16" wheels.
If you're OK going a little less aggressive, Dynapros are pretty light at 37-38lb in stock'ish sizes.

 

Agreed. If you look at the tread depth, the general in SL has the deepest tread of all the SL tires I looked at. I almost bought some in the stock size for that reason, but I decided I really want to upsize to 75s.

I have decided on Duratracs in C or the generals if I find some used 17" stock Toy wheels by the time I really need to buy.

 

Agreed. The tread on that tire for an SL is really deep. I have always had good luck with GYs too but I do hear a lot of mixed reviews on the Duratracs and I'd hate to invest in a set only to have a bunch of issues. I think if I can sell my stock tires and wheels I may change to the 17s but I'm still dickering with Toyota very my howling and they are acting like they have no idea what I'm talking about. I may wait for that dance to conclude before I do anything. Either way, I'd just like to get my truck like I want it and then enjoy it.

 

I got 5- Nitto Ridge 265 70 17 with 5- XD Addict rims on CL yesterday for $1300. The guy even installed them for me. They aren't much noisier than the factory tires and the ride isn't that much stiffer for being E rated ties.

 

Those Ridge Grapplers are nice tires! Nice setup there too, BTW.

 

I ended up getting the Falken Wildpeak AT3W's for mine and I'm extremely happy with them so far. I got the 265/70/17's because I switched to the TRD SEMA wheels, but they do make it in a 265/75/16, and you can get SL or E load depending on what you want.

 

The Falken is really a good tire for sure. I'm just thinking the General has deeper tread in the SL version and I think is maybe 5 or 6 pounds lighter. This one is on the list too but I'm all but dead in the water until I get some acknowledgement on the rear diff howl. I also have to decide between 16 and 17. It just seems like I'm overthinking this way too much but it makes me feel a little better knowing others are in the same boat.
