They were reliable, put out a solid 225 hp and 300 ft/lbs, were tiny enough to fit into just about any engine compartment, and Ford was kind enough to install them in cheap, light cars that kids would wrap around telephone poles ensuring a plentiful supply in any local junkyard. Definitely good stuff.

The new Mustang GTs start around $29k. Not exactly cheap, but 400+ horsepower is a lot for that price point. And again, they'll be wrapped around telephone poles so these will make for some excellent transplants in the future.

Bummer the mod motors are so massive. Makes it tougher to squeeze into tight engine bays but anything is possible. :)

The 5.0 Cammer (Coyote) is completely new. has no similarities to any of the other Ford engines.
I'll take Ford's 11:1 compression ratio, forged crank and rods over dodge or chevy's **big motor=best** attitude..
It's not all about how much power/torque you put down, it's about how the engine uses it. Torque/power CURVES and the RPM at which peak tq/hp is reached are what makes a good motor. IE-making 400hp at peak 6400rpm is better than 400hp at peak 5400rpm when the valvetrain can support the rpm's.

Now that I got that out of the way, the only thing Ford messed up on IMHO is why they chose hypereutectic pistons.. yeah it's more cost effective, but why skimp out on pistons??

I sat in a Challenger at a car show in January and it had a stick shift in it. Maybe it's a new option?
