5w-40. Just switched from the 5w-30; not much difference that I can tell but I'm sure the bearings are liking the heavier weight.

    What I got: https://www.amazon.com/Pennzoil-550...sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=Penzoil+5W-40+Euro+spec

One thing of note; getting the high pressure radiator cap didn't lower engine temps but when I shut off the engine, even after an extended cool down idle, you could hear the coolant "boil" in the turbo. I don't get that now. Also, if you get the cap, keep an good eye on all your fittings. EVERYTHING leaked and required tightening down all my hose clamps.

I run it on a stock 2.7. It burns oil like no one's business so I changed to 5W-40. It's helped reduce burn off and seems the engine just likes it. Now if I can fix the rest of the engine bugs...

You'll probably want new piston rings before putting a turbo on it.

    Rings, valve guides and seals.

Really need to pull the engine and do a good once over. New gaskets and seals where possible. Even plasti-gauge the bearings.

Don't know if I really want to go that route just yet. May just do an engine swap. Only time will tell.

If your tolerances are sloppy this won't help at all, but try running some Diesel oil in there, Shell Rotella is a favorite among the Subie crowd, the extra additives help with the blow by on your piston rings. Seems to have made a huge difference, especially to the turbo guys.

I stumbled across this a while back, it still seems to be in early development, as there's a lot of features it lacking, but it's by far one of the cheapest solutions out there that actually works.

Got to be very careful with using diesel oil. Has to be for both gas and diesel engines. Otherwise it won't last, and will mess up the engine. Regular diesel oil will be broken down more easily by gasoline, that gasoline engine oil.

I wasn't aware of that. Need to go lookup that Rotella before I go reccomending it to others.

Ah, I see now. I missed a piece. It's specifically the Rotella T6 Multi vehicle, that works for both. Thanks for the heads up on that

I would totally rig that up for an engine test stand or something like that

I feel like it's good if you need a low budget, N/A 4 cylinder solution, and it's just getting dd'd or run at track days/autox's where you don't need extra stuff like boost control, launch control etc.

All of those are just settings in a computer program. Whats to say you can't just write the programs to supplement what you're asking it to do?

obviously you have to be good at writing code, and being 1337 haxorz tho :ballchain:

Yeah, I'm looking at it from the standpoint of "I can't code worth a damn, so I'm stuck with what it comes out of the box" with the upside of additional features being added over time as it's developed. Plus, it being open spirce, there will probably be a bunch of little scripts released to add little odds and ends features.
