So to update on my last post.

I brought my New Tacoma (Now at 560 Miles) to the dealership twice because the truck shakes at highway speeds (70-80mph).

So far the dealership tried to fix this by: replacing air in the tire, balancing tires (they just did this on the second trip to the dealership), and they replaced the camshaft sensor.

I just got the truck back from the second trip and I still have the shaking.

Does anyone know of what I can check myself on this truck that may be causing vibration at 70-80mph?

If front is shaking move front wheels to rear. See if the shaking moves to rear. Than you know it's a tire/wheel issue.

There is a pile of possibilities.

Is the shake in your seat or steering wheel? If so, rotate the tires F-R and see if the shake moves. If yes, it would seem a tire/wheel issue is at play.

Take the service advisor for a ride so they experience what you are feeling.

Tell them to call you when it's fixed. Enjoy their loaner while you wait.

My vote is for a bad tire. Ask them if they have a Hunter GSP9700 (machine that has the option to Road Force Balance), and a tech that actually knows how to use it, that can see if they can resolve the issue, or ID a tire needing replacement.

Since dealerships generally aren't tire experts, they may not have that high end equipment. If they don't, ask if they'll be willing to farm it out to a shop that does.

Are they road force balancing them?

Did they do the simplest thing and try a set of tires/rims from a different truck on it? It could be a bent rim or defective tire(s) or they just suck at balancing.

If you have time to kill you can have someone turn the wheel back and forth while you look at all the steering/suspension components in the front. Make sure there isn't any odd movement or flex. Double check the u-bolts are torqued properly in the rear.

It actually feels like it is coming from the rear, but it shakes throughout the entire floorboard. Maybe I can switch the tires to the front.

Shake actually feels more like its coming from the floorboard from the rear of the truck.

However, I will look into the Hunter GSP9700, and see if they have the machine.

Myself and several others have also posted on here about a vibration at certain speeds. I have a slight vibe at 55mph+ and even moreso at 70+. Mine is in the steering wheel and you can feel it in the floor and seats too.

If I let go of my steering wheel you can see it has a fast shimmy side to side.

Not sure on the Road Force Balancing. I will try to see if I can find out how they balanced them

I don't believe they tried another set of tires, but I will ask them too when I come back.

I actually wondered about the U-bolts because I know they used to not come torqued from the factory. I'll try to get underneath tonight and check torque on them.

My vote is bad tire. See if someone you know will swap wheels to try it or make the dealer swap and take it for a spin.

It's more than likely an out of spec tire. Need to get them road force balanced. I got a bad set of KO2s and it did exactly as you are describing. Two of them were out of spec according to the RFB. Got a second set that was in spec and its much much better. 95% of the time it's perfectly smooth but on a occasion I do get a little shake in the steering wheel. Also the passenger seat shakes like crazy at exactly 78mph lol but I personally don't think that's tire related. It's time to rotate so we'll see if it changes anything.

When you say they replaced the air in your tires did they deflate and reinflate your tires? Or did they reset the bead?

I had a noticeable vibration at 70mph. Rotated the tires and it went away. Came back two months later. It was tread separation.

I posted on your initial thread about the steering wheel vibrations on my 2017. This was after getting new wheels and tires. At times it felt like the rear of the truck wheel hop etc but most times the front. I wondered about drivetrain, camber, toe etc. Took it back once and rebalanced all 4 tires - same problem. Took it back again last week and was sure it was at the front so had them rebalance there first. Happy to say that they roll good now and I can drive comfortably on the highway again.

So there you go - same shop same balancer. Some of these techs just need to spend a little more time on them to get to 0 balance.

I know an old tire guy and he said that Toyota's are such a tight truck that any road condition or balance problem is magnified because of it - true dat.

And just so you know I had my dealer rotate/balance the wheels back in April at my 8000 km check and that's where the problem all started. Had it back twice and they still couldn't balance them.

I know your frustration been there

2017 SR 5 access cab, vibration starts at 45 mph pulsating turns constant at 50 feel it in the seat, floor and steering wheel 55 to 65 makes the rear view mirror shake. Over 70 vibrates so fast can't feel it. Told this to the dealer they replaced the needle bearings . No changes in vibration. The service manager overruled service writer and agreed to check the U joint driveshaft . Bringing it in tomorrow will post outcome

This is the exact type of vibration I had in my old truck when my pinion bearing was shot. Do you have any whirring or howling noises from the rear?

Anything you have done to possibly damage the driveshaft?

I have the exact same issue with my 17 TRD Sport. I've had 3 sets of tires and two sets of wheels and it still shimmy's. The dealership replaced rear suspension components as they said one side was sitting lower than the other. It still wobbled so I brought it back, they made some "adjustment" to the rack and said it was good to go. Still wobbles. I'm kind of lost what to do at this point - sucks my brand new truck shakes going down the hwy.
