    Oh shit :anonymous:

It's my moms, she wanted to tow it with her Highlander, but she's the type to follow the rules down to the dot and her Highlander is only rated at 2000 lbs while the trailer is 2300 lbs dry, maybe a good thing she doesn't try but oh well haha. I'm tempted to try pulling it with the Taco but if you were getting 1mpg I bet I'd get a solid 4...

The 4runner has more torque but same horsepower. Plus no bed. A loaded 4runner would theoretically have the same MPG as a Tacoma then.

:rofl:285's + trailer killed any fuel economy I had on that trip. I managed a respectable 14MPG on the way home though.

I have a 2nd gen and @TX_Lucian has a 5th gen 4 runner, he has an extra 40 or so horses than I do because Toyota has VVT on both intake and exhaust on that motor and I don't. I didn't consider camper sleeping an option, I've done it once but I was far from comfortable. 6'1" in a 5' bed with a sleeping bag was not the way I wanted to end Big Bend. The wind was more than my tent could take and with the rain moving in, it was one of the only options. Now if you go 6' bed and accesscab (kinda wish I had) then camping under a topper is a lot easier.

Then again, you could always make a topper tent like @Phoosa to "extend" your sleeping space.

With my 4Runner when I run 265's I get 18-20MPG and i've got skids, sliders, roof rack, front bumper and 3 inch lift. On the 285's I have on steelies(100lbs a wheel/tire) I average about 13-16MPG.

I run 265/75/r16 so just a bit larger than factory TX-BAJA tires and I'm getting 14MPG consistently on my commute. I hit 20mpg on my last highway trip, and thats considering with the larger tires, it's not ticking off as many miles for the same distance traveled. In fact, according to the GPS in my ESCORT it's more accurate with the larger tires than the factory tires.

Autonation "misdiagnosed" my rear AC pulley for being the compressor... long story short I got a new free AC compressor out of their fuckup...:bananadance: Pretty sure the service advisor was just trying to get the most money out of me though.

For security, I agree with @TX-TACO, a 4Runner may be a better choice -- assuming you'd be putting a shell on the taco. I maintain that nice Habitat shell on a 2nd gen taco would be a good living+work setup, but they're expensive. Faster and potentially more space efficient that an RTT. And essentially gives you a comfortable office space as well as headroom/privacy to dress, prepare meals, etc. But it still stands out in a parking lot and is not secure.

Long beds are better IMHO :D #DCLBMAFIA, I hated the short bed on my 1st gen. Constantly had issues hauling shit. Not with the DCLB though.

    I am alive!!!

Sorry I've been MIA. Was in CO for a week and work is crazy.

I need to meet up with y'all soon. Been too long!

On another note my truck was a champ to and from CO. I did get a flat for the first time since I bought my truck on a mountain dirt road. Had to have been a sharp as hell rock cause it went real deep into the tread. Also was able to hike to the summit of the West Spanish Peak (13,630ft). That was incredible. And exhausting.
