Lets see your Satoshi Mesh and Mounting

Well, Im in the process of completing my Satoshi and Im not sure what mesh to use and how to mount it.

That being said, id like to see what mesh you used, where you got it, and how you mounted it.

This is the mesh I'm getting on mine minus the X emblem. Having a buddy complete the grill so I don't know about mounting. I'll let you know once I get it. Got the mesh in black from this place

Get a grille to use because if you take your time and let everything set right. It'll take about 3-5 days.

Ive been grill shoping and Ill be dammed if Im spending over 50 bucks for a chunk of grill for my Satoshi project.

Custom car grills is abotu the cheapest I have seen for the DIY stuff.

I have been looking high and low for a "honey comb" pattern. Well I found a company that had some...they wanted 149+ shipping arrrrrgh!


IM hoping this thread will reveal some new sources and grill hole shapes...

Found honeycomb for 44+Shipping! and it is a 36" x 40" sheet!

 

gotta be careful on the thickness though. some of the stuff i found online was pretty thin/flimsy.

Depends on where you buy it from. Craigslist, Toyota, or eBay.

 

Still waiting for the final product back from the painter (my wifes uncle has a body shop). Here is what I sent to him.... L-brackets Epoxied in/ Fender washers due to wide holes in steel (I wont overheat = / ) and heavy guage stainless mesh sandblasted and red oxide primered. The entire unit will be black when I get it back.

 

How did you attach those metal brackets?

 

I should have taken pics of mine when I reworked it this last weekend. I used zipties across the top of the grille. Drilled holes about 1/2" in from the grille edge. That is my "failsafe" to hold it together in case the other mounting doesn't hold or breaks. You can't see the top of the grille unless you get down and look at it. So the black zipties I used are hardly noticeable. On the bottom and the sides I bought some machined bolts with nuts from the hardware store. They're small enough diameter to fit through my Grillcraft and they're about 5" long. I used a Dremel and cut the heads off so that the bolts could mount flat and straight on the grille. Then they stick out behind the grille. I painted some washers black to use to hold the grille on better. I used 4 of them on the bottom and then 1 on each side. I epoxied the hell out of each bolt to mount it to the plastic grille.

 

I used screw bosses (actually for nails) that are on a pipe hanger from Lowes (about 1.50 for 12 bosses) and mounted them using abs glue - pretty sweet untill I cut it all apart so that I can get to my winch.
