Just stopped by today and did a slow drive by. Still looks like its in the same spot. I also noticed what looked like a ding on the passenger side front door but it could have been a glare.

I have a gps tracker in mine that reports a daily "heartbeat" and I set it to notify me the first time it moved. It moved on day 66 and I picked it up on day 67. I was also surprised that my battery voltage dropped from 12.7 to 12.0 over that period.

ive been thinking of doing that, its 115 degrees here so it sucks thinking my truck is sitting on a lot for 2 months with the blazing sun hitting the interior and exterior as it collects dust.

Checked the nuts, pretty snug. Didn't want to over tighten.Fluid filmed the under body so hard to tell. Checked dif fluid and is full. Will bring it in on next service. NOT leaving my truck at a dealer for more than a day or 2. Hopefully its snug and go.

You will notice I first called them studs, which is the correct term.

Bolts was to include all perceptions as many may think of them as that.

I can't help it sometimes--both my grandfathers, and my father were mechanical engineers and when you grow up in that sort of situation--and then become one yourself--using proper terminology becomes something that gets "beaten" into you.

My father's father always asked "If you call a cow's tail a leg, how many legs does a cow have?". The uninitiated would quick reply "5", to which he would respond "Wrong; calling the tail a leg does not make it one."

The Bottom line is Toyota could fix these trucks pretty easily, they are pumping them out of factory with the same parts. The real reason is simple. Money...........

Ordering large quantities of replacement parts at once will lower quarterly profit margins and drop the stock price. So they are doing it slowly, yes rentals cost them money but they get huge across the board discounts and they can hide those numbers much easier.

Toyota does not care or give a rats ass about the exiting customers period. They got our money, and they want other peoples money.

Toyota built a good reputation a LONG TIME AGO, 2nd Gen Toyota's were the beginning of the steep decline. In fact Toyota now has to replace the majority of all the frames on these trucks they sold from 2006 - 2011 including Tundra's It is expected to cost them 3.6 billion dollars. And the judge still hasn't approved the settlement and there are literally hundreds of owners who are waiting around and cannot drive their trucks because the frames rusted in half.

So Toyota is going to drag their feet and fuck all of us and they don't care. I had to wait 9 months for a frame on my 2nd Gen and I will not do that again.

Mine has old seepage, meaning it seeped once, but the oil stains are old, the fluid is full and I will keep checking it.

Maybe the NHTSA need to know people are not taking their trucks in because Toyota won't fix them and risking many lives........

When my wife and I purchased a Hybrid Camry back in 2006, the dealer told us it would be a very well built car because they were still making the Camry Hybrids in Japan... and it was. So even back then, the dealers knew about he shitty US Toyota/Mexico quality.

That Toyota and their dealers seem to feel impounding (confiscating, commandeering, hijacking, pick a word) customers' relatively new trucks for 2+ months is an acceptable solution pretty much to my mind etches in stone that the above is an accurate statement.

I would not tolerate it as nicely as some seem to have, if this happened to me it would be the last new Toyota I would ever buy (a meaningless threat from me as we have not bought a new car in 25+ years will likely never do so again).

But beyond this fiasco, that the recall is even necessary¹ signifies astoundingly shoddy manufacturing practices. It's not as though Toyota had never made these axles before--my '09 DCSB has 140k miles and the rear-end is as tight as a drum...

    -------------------------------
¹ - The fundamental issue appears to be that the carrier mounting nuts (same in size and number as on the 2nd gen non-locking axles) were not properly torqued during assembly--not that they or the studs are inadequate, this evidenced by the remedy for non-leaking units is to simply properly tighten the nuts (in fact I did this on a neighbor's 2017 just last week, all 10 required tightening by 3/4 to 1+ turn before reaching 18 lb·ft).

This said however the quality of the nuts may be suspect as the remedy for weeping/leaking assemblies includes replacing the nuts and torquing the replacement nuts to 28 lb·ft--but somewhat curiously on the original studs?

https://apexprotectgps.com/ They ( my dealer) put it on all their cars on the lot. They'll pull it out if you don't really want it but I decided to keep it. Pretty cool tech online and such. You can set up "geo fences" on a map and if it crosses the line you get notified. Too much speed, low voltage, etc... Here's a sample screenshot.

Do you have to pay monthly service fee?

It was a one time fee for a three year plan I believe. May even be 5 years. I'd have to dig out the paperwork.

Mines at the dealership right now getting inspected. They said it wold take a few hours. They also informed me that Toyota only expected around 200 to have this problem and they only have seen one, which they still have waiting on parts. I have terrible luck, so I am expecting the worst.
