How do you know the Tune will not void your warranty? Are you able to prove the tune would not be traceable by dealer tech through the ECU software version tracking?

 

Did you install the ECGS bushing yet?

 

Matt has said several times that it cannot be tracked. Since he is familiar with tuning Lexus and other Toyota vehicles, he is probably correct.

 

I've seen a lot of folks complain about highway commutes with 33's. Many of them either regear, move to pizza cutters (255/85/16) for a skinnier 33, or go with something slightly smaller like a 31.5 (265/75/16 or 265/70/17)

 

That is a lot of trust ($$$) to place on somebody's word on a forum. I'd be inclined to believe he's going to speak the truth not just trumping up his product by spouting misinformation or pointing people down the wrong path. Hypothetically, the first time somebody's engine blows or ECU gets bricked and the dealer pushes back refusing warranty coverage... the shit would certainly hit the fan. If it's truly only a mediocre performance gain, not sure it is worth the cost or the risk. Personally I'd hold out and wait to see the consumer feedback on this for a year or so before implementing on my own vehicle.

 

Your best bet is to trade it in.

Seriously. You will never be happy. Even if you totally ditch the dealer profit adders of cheap suspension, wheels and tires, nothing will change (of significance) for your towing power.

A Tundra will solve your woes. No mods required.

 

I'm with smitty in terms of not worth risk or money, just my opinion. Of course, begin a white knight, I have no complaints on power. Being a dude, MOAR POWERRRR is always better

 

Few things to note in all seriousness:

Coming from a Duramax it's going to take some time to get used to it. These trucks have no power at all compared to a duramax. Most of the power in this truck is in the upper rpms where most truck people aren't used to it being.
You're probably feeling the same lack of low end power as most other people due to the way Toyota tuned it to be somewhat eco friendly.
Assuming you have the automatic, press the ECT PWR button below the AC controls and you'll get an instant help in power and take off. It'll hold gears a little better as well.
The lift and tires on it are killing you. You can look into getting a better quality lift for some extra money, or re-gear as well to help get some of that power back.
If the truck was purchased new, it will take some time to get it self adjusted to your driving habits as well.

OVTune is working on a new tune and some people have it with good positive results. Keep in mind though this is still in Alpha stage so it will change and people are lined up for when purchasing opens back up.

 

He did say he could unbrick it if it bricked on one post. It's always a big gamble when you mod. I was a little scared on modding my truck when I started reading on here about all the issues. Suspension parts are not a big deal. Engines and transmissions and computers are.

 

So sorry for asking it it's obvious, but what engine did you get?

 

From the pic he posted below it looks like it has the "V6" badge on the far right of the tailgate, if I'm correct in assuming that's where it goes on the non-TRD trucks.

 

Not trading it in. Plus didn't pay much for the dealer lift. $34999 plus fees for the truck. I tow so little it's not worth the hassle as a daily driver and gas mileage of the tundra. My lake is literally in my backyard. Couple performance upgrades and it should be great.

 

I think you're correct about the badge location. Also see it on the TRD trucks as well in that spot.

Bouncing around, not steering straight and uncomfortable ride may all be due to tire pressures. with 33" tires on that small of a truck a good starting point will probably be sub 30 psi. Might want to take a large piece of paper and put it down on a flat spot of smooth concrete and drive over it and see if the print you make is close to the width of the tire.

 

Forget the truck! Just drive the MasterCraft around the lake all day

 

Weird but I almost bought that truck 2 weeks ago from Roseville Toyota. Test drove it and from 1st hand experience the ride was trash. Granted the power wasn't a big deal to me. I saved money and got a 2007 TRD OR DCSB. I love the 4.0 in 2nd gens
