Good contractors are hard to find which is why I do so much of my own work. Never tried A/C work but considering installing a multi-zone mini-split. Might try to do all of the install except for the vacuum and fill. Anyone ever installed a multi-zone ductless mini-split?

Almost none...they come into the tracks and build for speed.

If that's the case, that's my issue. I've got probably 25 feet of line in the attic alone for each unit lol

What brand is your unit? I had issues with mine last spring where it was low on refrigerant, and the evaporator coil had a leak. Turns out, there was a class action settlement and Lennox had to provide a new coil and replacement refrigerant. I was out the labor cost for the service call and installation after everything was all said and done.

I hate to have to make sure the concrete gets consolidated. I'll have to look for pictures.

Edit Picture: Not a big mat but 36" deep. I'll try and find a better project picture.

When I was looking into mine, I found similar suit against Trane (my brand for one unit), and it was relatively new. Pinhole leaks, etc.

I was guessing the unit is either undersized or even oversized for the home. There's always the possibility of loose fittings, not enough charge, or leaks like the others have mentioned as well

That sucks...mine is under warranty through my builder. So if is anything other than an issue related to normal use, it's on them. I've only owned the house 3 months, so there's very little they can try to pin on me.

Mine is Goodman, it appears the evaporator coil itself is ADP.

I contacted the builder and they gave me a company to contact locally. It's their subcontractor, and it seems to have a decent rep. Since its not the building company coming directly, I feel I'm less likely to get the runaround, like trying to blame me for the issue or trying to charge me. The outside company just wants to get paid, doesn't matter to them if the builder has to cough it up.

I say that because we had a door handle break internally. When we did the walk through, I noted it was "notchy" when turning the handle, and the builder agreed. When it finally broke and I couldn't open the door, the guy came out to fix it. Had to order a part, builder's email was "It seems it broke from being slammed repeatedly, we will still cover it, however." Came off as "your fault but I GUESS we will fix it."

    EDIT:
Both units are the same, 3 ton units. Given our climate, thats good for roughly 3000-3600 sq feet, in total if both are running. We are ~3040 sq feet. Not sure on design temp, honestly.

My ac guy mentioned that they stopped installing trane because of all warranty work they were having to do.

When I did a walk through at this place, I called my brother to inquire about the Goodman brand. He told me they're decent and when they have issues it's usually a cheap, generic part. Which is nice.

Yay me. The 2-year-old AC is having more issues than the other 19-year-old unit. Seems OK for now.

So, what brand of A/C is a good one? My unit is 15 years old and wonder how long it will last :notsure: Current one is a Trane - was supposed to be a good brand and I've only had one issue with it. Had the builder put this in, instead of the cheapo one they were gonna use. I do still see a lot of the cheapo ones in the neighborhood.

Got the barney board up in the shower today, getting ready for the fat mud, then tile. Also ran some electrical. Hope to finish that tomorrow. Set the throne in place to make sure the holes line up... so far so good.
