I'm not a fan of single trip mileage pics anymore than I am not a fan of citing one tank due to the difficulty of getting a consistent fill level from tank to tank, pump to pump no matter how well documented. (You can add like 3 gallons after first shut-off.)

In this particular case, it is not very well documented as @7r41lbr34k3r has not typed in the correct volume from the receipt into fuelly. ;)

Edit: finally learned how to link someone's screen name.

    I did...

...and there was a discrepancy. No big deal, I'm just pointing out the irony.

Anyway, is that from the Torque app or what? Is that a calculated fuel level or an OBD fuel level? What does it say when the fuel light comes on? Is there any other low fuel indicating on the SR?

My anchor has been the owner's manual.

There are approximately 3.2 gallons remaining when the fuel light illuminates, so I pay close attention when it lights up while I am relatively flat.

Calculations from there have shown me that I get about a half gallon more than the 17.9 G it should take to fill the tank.

Once I told Torque that my tank was 21.6G.... I had more consistent results calibrating it.

It was always within .2G from then on, which I thought was very close. I have a scangauge on the way now, so I get to calibrate all over again. Ugh ...

It is calculated, as the SR has no fuel level sensor reporting to the ECU.

All systems can have errors and agree 1 trip isn't as good as multiple trips. I suspect most of the mileage posted is reasonably accurate, though people like to debate. There are a lot of variables in MPG, as it is noted in the 80+ pages of posts.

In my case I drive it a few times a week and see it over and over on my dash. Was just posting for those who apparently were not sure it is possible what I noted. Did the math and it confirmed the computer info.

Dang some of ya'll are determined to make something simple extremely hard. Here's how it is done for crying out loud.
    1. Fill your gas tank to first click (all the way up FFS)
    2. Reset your trip odometer
    3. Drive it till the fuel gauge reads close to E (E means empty--I feel I need to point that out here)
    4. Fill tank to first click again (Inorite, jeez this is hard, all these steps)
    5. Divide miles traveled by gallons pumped into tank (this may be off if you put gas in a can for your lawn mower so don't count that OK)?
    6. Insert text about driving conditions: This was my daily commute of 15miles each way, curvy, hilly roads and in town driving 30-65mph and ~75 highway miles at 75MPH.

    441.5/18.648= 23.67 MPG

    I can't wait that long.

There are 4 different types of German in my blood, so I have a fundamental need for unnecessary precision.

My first tank I got 21.91 mpg. 70% highway. 2.7 4x4 auto. I am expecting for it to get slightly better seeing how my truck only has 400 miles on it. I drive 80+ miles a day, so the miles will add up quick.

I've had a SGII for a long time; used it on my 2002 for like 10 years. I never felt it was accurate enough for distance to empty (DTE) purposes. I would calibrate over several tanks (tried to get close to 100 gallons) and it seemed it would be somewhat accurate for either highway (road trip) OR commuting. Maybe it would be useful for DTE from the low fuel light point; but, not any more so than Torque. I have it hooked up, but I don't pay much attention to it since I have satisfactorily demonstrated to myself that the on-board mpg is accurate to within 1%.

Apparently, some Toyotas report fuel level through the ODB in %. After working with Linear Logic on fixing my Trans temp problem and scanning my OBD for like 30 minutes with their data logger they never came up with any new 'x-gauges' and I have tried all the Toyota fuel level 'x-gauge' codes with no luck. I was hoping you found out how to read the OBD fuel level with Torque.

Yep, I'm happy. I don't drive it as hard as the 4 cylinder though. I drive with traffic and not trying to be way ahead or behind. The v6 trans has to learn how you drive too. I hated it at first but it's getting better as I drive it.
Short trips(2 miles one way) I see around 16 but 8 plus miles I am in the low 20s

I already have a few different x gauges saved for fuel level when it arrives. Torque never picked up a signal when I checked it off in settings, so I just assume it's not there. At the very least, it could just be a proprietary code like gens 2 and 3 prius seems to have.

    Have you tried those codes?

Ok, so my scangauge got here today. Our Tacomas DO, in fact, have a fuel level sensor reporting to the ECU. I got this from the gen 3 prius page on their website.

Well, the 2.7L w/ convenience package does anyway ... but I can't imagine why the 3.5L would be any different.

    TXD - 07C02129

    • x.x Gallons, updates quickly
I drove to the bottom of my driveway to level out, which is a fairly steep incline ... and it went from 15.3 to 14.0. I doubt it'll become part of the MPG calculation, but it'll at least help by enabling us to calibrate on the fly by comparing to the "gallons used/tank" trip gauge.

Hot damn! That does seem to work. I thought I had tried them all... at least, all the Toyota codes on the SG site. My fuel gauge is currently showing about 2/3 tank and SGII shows 13.0 (that's about 62%). Truck is sitting damn near level in the garage... maybe nose down ever so slightly.

It will be interesting to see what it says at fuel light warning and at "Please Refuel" or whatever it says. This could buy me 40+ miles in a pinch. I had a slow and nervous drive from Carlsbad Caverns to El Paso because the Nav or Google said there was a gas station near CC; but, it was shuttered. The only alternative would have added 40-50 miles to the trip.

    Thanks @7r41lbr34k3r !

I don't mind my manual transmission but they seem to be fairly rare on the New Tacoma's. I have not read any information on the AT having a learning curve. sounds interesting

Mine is wildly inconsistent but acceptable, I will have a tank with 19.7 then a tank with 17.3 with no major difference in driving conditions. My average is about 18.4 normally with a city commute of 15 miles each way.
In my eyes their epa numbers for city is lower than actual and the numbers for highway are waaaaaay higher than in the real world.
