No on is saying you need to live with it. We're explaining its a very simple and common issue with ANY leaf springs on ANY truck, its the nature of leaf springs. As explained before leaf springs are literally long pieces of flexible metal, when dirt and debris gets in between flexing metal guess what you get?? SQUEAKS. No one is saying you have to live it with, we're saying there's a simple solution that has been used by offroaders for decades: power wash and grease, that's it! Its literally part of my post off-road cleanup process it adds about 15 minutes to clean up time.

Its not different than waxing your paint to keep it nice, you don't NEED to wax it, but you'll live with swirl marks and light scratches if you don't. You don't NEED to clean off that bird shit on the hood, but it might stain the paint if you don't. You don't NEED to properly clean up your truck after offroading, but it might squeak if you don't.

You're trying to argue against basic fucking physics (abrasive material + rubbing metal = noise) using a data point of ONE (your old Dakota) to extrapolate broad conclusions (this shouldn't happen).... that's not how this works, That's not how ANY OF THIS WORKS

    Update:
Took my truck to dealer today and there was a service bulletin about the reported squeaks. Basically it tells the dealer to clean the bushings/leaf springs.

I have owned a host of cars and the following trucks/SUVs:
    • 1994 Toyota Standard Cab Pickup (bought new) One of the best vehicles I have ever owned-->I wish I still had it.
    • 1996 Nissan Hardbody Standard Cab (Bought with 30k miles on it) Meh.
    • 2000 Ford F-150 (Work Series with Steel Wheels, Manual Tranny, and rubber floor mats)(Bought New)-->Wish I still had it.
    • 2006 Nissan Titan SE (Bought New) Another vehicle I wish I still had.
    • 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee (V8 with 60k miles) Horrible.
    • 2016 Toyota Tacoma (Bought New) Still undecided. Great looks, good power, good off-road, but...
None of these trucks were luxury trucks. None of them had the squeak, except the Tacoma.

As some of you requested, I filed a formal complaint today with Toyota Corporate. The dealer got rid of 'most' of the squeak (but not all).

Hopefully, if this is really an issue, it will gain some traction. I do believe that debris in the leaf/bushing is the cause [fact]. I DO NOT believe it is normal (maybe common) [opinion]. I do not like the thought of having to get under my vehicle for cleaning after every drive down a fire road, through a mud puddle, etc [fact]. It is an embarrassing sound and completely ridiculous.

Of all of the trucks/SUVs above I put at least 60k miles on. I have just under 34k on the Tacoma.

"Good off-road". So you've taken your tacoma off-road. So you would expect dirt and debris to get in between your leafs/bushings? Right?

When I first bought my truck I got the squeak to real bad, but not until I went off-road with it. It comes with the territory. powerwash your leafs and get some lithium grease, or quit going off-road.

I must be the luckiest guy in the world !!! My 04 DBLCSB doesn't squeak nor does the 17 DBLCLB ! And if either did I would solve the problem:). And unlike the "clown"who can't write a post without using the F word lol !! I was my trucks befor 7 weeks and clean them thoroughly when done with an adventure ! Maybe that's why I don't own a f'ing POS !
    Just saying !!!
    Ice cream anyone ?

I guess I just don't understand why this should be a warranty issue since you said it didn't squeak in the first 30K miles before you took it off road. Then started squeaking immediately after. Seems the solution is clear.

I'm not saying to just deal with it either, but to have no problem, then a problem after an event... I dunno.

If the op did not bend or otherwise break something while using it in the dirt , your darn straight it's a warranty issue ! And the fact some moron service writer goes and sprays silicone on it and does not even throw this truck to a mechanic to check out is idiotic! That's what the warranty is for !
    PEOPLE !!
So op uses truck for what it's built to be used for and its his fault !!????

there are soooooooo many threads on this exact thing.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE MAKE A STICKY with all the resolutions! lol

i went through the identical situation as the op, went mudding the first time and i mean slury nasty deep mud that coated my entire truck including 100% of the engine bay.
let it marinate for 4-5 in the florida sun before even spraying anything off at all.

    obviously got the squeak lol

but i've found a ton of threads with a bunch of solutions that a lot of them work great and even some perfectly.

edit: ppl should stop saying live with it or real trucks squeak.
it sounds like shit and the whole point of modding/investing money aside from more off road capabilities is for visuals and owning something nice or making a personal work of art lol

well if it sounds like shit then it affects visuals and the other stuff.

    rant over haha

Really easy to say when its not your truck. When someone buys a new truck they don't plan on it sounding like some beat up piece of trash.

I promise my truck squeaks more. Go look for a single post about me bitching about it. I promise you that you won't find one. Dirt + metal on metal = squeaking. Don't want it to squeak? Don't take it off road. It's that simple. It's a truck. It's not a luxury car. This is why everyone hates on third gens because the majority of posts in the third gen section is a bunch of crying about little problems that nearly every truck has.

once it's older and not so new the cry/complaining will decrease(including me).
for 30-40k ppl are just gonna be that way until some years go by and it's not so new.

was the same way the first few years with my 370z and the new mustangs and the new s series audie's and the 5th gen 4runner ect.....

An SR5 Tacoma is "built" to be taken off road and into deep mud?

    No says I.

If I buy a computer and use it to download tons of porn and it crashes, should the warranty cover it because "hey man I was just surfing the net! That's what it was designed for."

When my door hinges inevitably start squeaking I'll be sure to demand warranty work.

It's not a warranty item, so not to worry about that.

This thread provides a good solution. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/finally-killed-that-retched-leaf-spring-squeak.451011/

Or you could use a product like this

BTW, leaf springs have squeaked forever in all kinds of marquees. Product like this wouldn't exist just for Tacomas.

It's a 4wd ! And if your computer crashes under warranty it's covered !! And if it's got porn or boring kitten pictures and videos it's covered too!
Lmao now your bringing your own Poly Purbread ethics into it ? You sound like your from the Mcarthy days :) pull your rock back up and crawl under it !

So? It's not designed to be run through mud and neglected for three days.
