Had a black lab that loved popsicles. He'd have one gone in under 15 seconds. Had to put him down bout a year ago and new black lab loves her ice cubes. She'll catch them mid air and crunch them

    We have 5 altogether. Three of our own and 2 we've been fostering for a year. They're basically ours too. Our 3 are a Cur(Puddin'), our Rotten Weenie(Beta, who's a Rottie/Dachshund) and a Pit/Lab mix(King). The 2 little ones we foster are a Jack Russell(Lil Jack) and a Dachshund(Penny).

No, that's Penny. Yes she does. Her software must be corrupted bc she's always needing them, lol! Beta is the 2nd pic down. He's the Rottie/Dachshund mix and looks just as you'd expect. He's the Tyrion Lannister of Rottweilers.

My dachshunds have the same problem. lol I'm telling them all the time they're in need of a reset. Maybe it's because they're so rotten.

Lot of neutered dogs here lately, the year and a half old Toller I recently rehomed was done Monday. So far he hasn't needed to wear the cone of shame. Hopefully it will decrease his testosterone level so he will get along better with my existing 2.5 year old Toller. But that could take up to 6 weeks for the hormones to leave his bloodstream, time will tell. They both know I am leader of the pack but with intact males that doesn't always seem to matter, and they have their own pecking order between them.

Small gene pool breeding can be done effectively and has with the Nova Scotia Duck Tollers. They almost went extinct in the late 70's early 80's. But because of that breeders have a clear gene pool record going back for many years. And the breeders are very careful and selective in their breeding choices. As well as who gets to own one let alone become a breeder.

As the numbers grow I am afraid the backyard breeders will start to pop up. At one time if they did, or someone intentionally did an incorrect breeding it would come across the Toller Listserve emails and everyone knew it and was aware. However the list appears to be dying unfortunately.

When the NSDTR was recognized by the AKC in 2003 I figured that was the end of the breed as I knew it. I watched what happened to the Irish Setter in the 70's and then later Labs which became larger for show standards. And many people dropped out of the hunt tests and people didn't seem to care.

So far the AKC has impressed me they have left standards to the Specialty Club. And I think more and more Lab breeders are working on the hunt test as well as the show. Both of my guys are large for breed standards, over or at 50 pounds, and will likely never be breed even if I took them to Master Hunter because they are so large. On the other hand would love to see them carry on their hunting abilities down the road and their larger size helps in the field. But that is not breed standard...

We have the addition of Tolling to the AKC hunt tests.

My 2.5 year old was the only one under a year old to pass at the National Specialty year before last. Although I only waterfowl hunt if get drawn in SD. I mainly upland hunt and they are OK with that :)

Here's my Springer Spaniel, Stella. She races in mountain bike races with me in cooler weather and loves the Tacoma, I have a DCSB and specifically keep the rear seats down with a pad on top so it's all hers back there. Not sure what I would do without my dog bcqc2017_0509.jpg

took jack kayaking for the first time...he has never been in the water (other than a bath) before this trip, so we weren't sure if he would like it, how he would act, or if he could even swim. so we bought a life jacket for him and went to a calm place...a community park with a shallow ~2-3 ft deep pond and rented kayaks. they were slow so they let us swap to stand-up paddle boards also. while I had done it once before, it was my GF's first time on the SUP. about an hour and a half of time on the water, only cost us about $10 and 30 minutes of travel. awesome day. BTW, yes he apparently can swim just fine, but i still don't think he like too too much. luckily we had the life jacket as the handle made it easy to pick him up and put him back in the boat/board. he couldn't/ or couldn't figure out how to climb up himself

I think that's awesome the races allow you to run with the dog!

And I'm pretty sure a lot of us would be lost without our pups.

    Not enough...
I make him "doggie ice cream". I get non-fat yogurt and mix half with tuna and another half with plain pumpkin, and freeze it in ice cube trays. he loves it.
