DO the 2nd Gens really get better mileage?

Hi Guys,
I did some searches and it seems that the 2nd gen trucks get better mileage than ours. Bigger, more power, and better mileage. Is this really true?

one of the guys i work with has the 2nd gen and he says his 1st gen got better mileage.

 

2nd gen drinks more gas than an eighteen wheeler.my 09 dc 4x4 gets maybe 18.0 to 20.0

 

Best mileage I've seen out of my 02 Prerunner V6 is 19. So I'm starting to wonder.

 

Aside from all the modifications I did to both my 96 & 07....

No...the 2nd gen doesn't get better mileage.

My 96 3.4L Manual tranny (with K&N drop-in, deckplate mod, mild lift, tonnea cover, synthetics in everything) got close to 20mpg fairly regularly and didn't change much mpg in the winter (regular highway/city driving)

My 07 4.0L Auto tranny(with AFE drop-in, removed secondary air filter, flowmaster dual exhaust, tonneau cover, & synthetic engine oil) gets about 18mpg regularly in the spring/summer and 15-16mpg in the winter (same type of driving as the 96).

This 07 just seems to be soooo damn sensitive to changes in temperature & having loads in the bed. While.....things I added to my 96 to improve mpg (that worked) haven't done anything in my 07 to improve mpg.

 

My 07 reg cab 4x4 2.7 got a mile or two more than my 04 4x4 xtra cab 2.7, the 07 was bigger too...

I'm new but I had to say this.

There are 2 things guys lie about and one is GAS MILEAGE.

 

And the other one is......shoe size, lol.

 

If they're not meteorproof and they can't best Nessie on her own turf, how can they be superior?

 

I've gotten 17.5 on all-highway driving in my '10 4x4 V6. I usually get around 15.5 average.

The 2000 Frontier I had was a 2WD V6, 5spd manual, 3.3L SOHC V6, 170HP. I got around 17 average, 20 hwy.

Gas mileage is definitely less than impressive on these trucks. I don't bitch too much because I knew that going into it but it sure as hell wasn't a selling point.

 

I get 22 mpg regularly...

2 different animals..

The 2nd gens are more like the 1st gen tundra t100... quite a bit bigger than the 1st gens so the aerodynamics of it all probably account for a difference even if they had the same engine/gears/transmissions.

In my eyes, it's apples and oranges - okay, granny smith vs red delicious.. LOL

 

dont u know... 2nd gens get better mileage cuz they spend more time getting fixed

Also depends on driving habits, city vs. highway miles, etc. Lots of different variables.

 

From what I'm seeing, second gen trucks are getting better mileage than first gen trucks even with the bigger size and more horsepower. Maybe the newer engines are just much more efficient. Sadly, full size chevys get similar mileage nowadays.
