Will paint stripper remove power coating?

Will regualar paint stripper sold at Lowes or Home Depot remove powder coating?

I think powder coating is a powdered paint just applied with a static charge and baked on making it more durable. Therefore paint stripper should work, right?

I bought some used OME 885 springs, they have some scratches and rust forming where the power coating has scratched off (I believe these springs are powder coated, it seems tougher than paint). I want to strip the powder coating, grind off any rust and repaint silver or red or something other than black.

 

No one knows?

It's "powder" coating, not power. I think trying to use paint stripper on something that is powder coated is like trying to get rid of AIDs with aspirin.

to remove powder coating you will have to sandblast it...they are just springs that will get scrached up anyways, just rattle can them!

 

Well I have some news to report.

I tried Jasco spray on paint remover that I bought from Lowes. It worked perfectly.

It worked so well, that I believe these springs are painted, not powder coated. The paint wrinkled, some just fell off, the rest came off with little effort of a wire brush.

And if these springs are actually powder coated, I may have just found a new cure for aids too.

Yeah man- the powder-coating process actually causes the paint and metal to merge together- thats why paint stripper will not work on something thats powder-coated. I should have said that in the first place- but I was on my cellphone at work at the time...

The reason why I thought that was funny is because there have been so many lawsuits involving paint-stripper that the companies water it down so much that it barely works anymore, the last time I used paint stripper was paint that was baked into WOOD and it hardly affected the stuff.

I'm glad you got it taken car of though. What kind of paint did you use?

 

Ya you need powder coating stripper or you can sandblast it a bumper that would usually need a soda blast or something similar
