Hey All! My second Tacoma build is complete and will hopefully get through my recon shop today and in the showroom this afternoon. I chose the equipment for this one without even adding up the pricing and have no idea where I ended up, just wanted to build it as if it were mine. Here's a sneak peek of the rear.
    IMG_0372.jpg
Ended up doing OME suspension, Method wheels, Ridge Grapplers, RCI rack and sliders, ARB tent, CaliRaised front and rear light bars. I'll add more pics and a full parts list later once it's displayed.

That might take until Monday, we run short staff on Saturday's in parts and service so the guys that I need the bills from aren't here until then. I'm almost afraid to see what I spent on this one.

Interesting. Where you located and what is the name of your business? Do you primarily do builds for re-sale? If so, any other examples you've done?

I'm the General Sales Manager at new Toyota dealer in central PA. I do them to resell but mostly because I get bored selling Camry's Corolla's Rav4's and Prius. I do one for fun and put it in the showroom, sell it, then to another. I pick the parts and order them and just have one of my techs do the install. He's into it too, you'll see some custom brackets and stuff done when I get more pictures of this truck.

Here's some pics of my last one. This one sold in less than two weeks. Guy traded a Ford Raptor in on it.

Ok, thanks for the details. I like what you're doing, it's a little unique for a dealer. Most just do some wheels and cheap lifts. Saying that, if you spend 5K and charge 10K, not so cool. Even for that sucker that was born yesterday. But I like what you've done.

Yeah, agreed. The pricing is hard to figure out. I don't build them to overcharge people. I source all of my parts from ToyTec except the lights. They work me a decent deal because of the volume I do. I don't mark the parts up. When the cost rises, it's the labor and shipping. I try to be reasonable. The last truck sold just north of 48k but it had the Katzkin custom leather, graphics (done in house) and a mess more TRD stuff. I don't start with a bare bones truck either, I make sure they have the nicer upgrade packages with sunroof, smart key and heated seats.

One thing that I do differently is stand behind the truck. If something happens and Toyota won't warranty it I will. I'm confident it's done right so I don't sweat it (for example, I always do the diff drop and adjustable uca's even though they are probably not 100% necessary, I want to keep every angle in spec). That does help me justify some of the labor costs. That's important to some buyers and not others. Some buyers can do the work themselves and save the labor (and don't mind selling their old parts to make some money back). I don't get into all of that. I do offer the old parts to the new owner if they want them.

It really is a ton of fun, I build them the way that I like them. The hardest part is not keeping them for myself. If they don't sell fast it's cool too. They make a nice addition to the showroom.

Again, no intentions of finding a buyer here, that's why I never talk about my dealership. I just love to hear the feedback from other Tacoma enthusiasts. Thanks again!

Any way we can clone you and replace all of the service techs at dealership with your clones lol? I would kill to have someone with your values locally here.

I've been in the same store for just over 21 years now. It truly embarrasses me some of the stories I've read on this forum. Really disappointing to hear of dealerships charging over sticker and finding silly ways to try to justify it. I HATE when they put addendum stickers on and charge for a "protection package" consisting of generic door edge guards and VIN etching on windows that does nothing. It's those guys that make my job so much harder than it needs to be. That's for a whole different forum I guess...

I totally agree I walked out of two dealerships and I was putting 10k down that day on the truck plus trade. Finally found someone I trust but I had to drive fifty miles.

Any other shots of those methods without the center caps? Do the factory hubs need to be painted to match the wheel?

    Good job there.

Can I ask what brand of seat covers you used?

That's cool. I know you have to turn a profit, and 30% would be reasonable, IMO. So if it costs you 5K parts and labour, and I give you $1500 for your trouble, I'd be happy that I didn't do the work and I get what I'm looking for.
