I think it was a particular model that had the warranty issues. Hopefully you'll be fine. I've always thought of trane as a good brand (my parents have had Trane since the late 90s).

I heard good things from Carrier and Rheem. I am in the process of replacing 3 23yr old units at work. They are American Standard which has been easy to work on and parts are cheap and accessible. I am getting bids on all 3 of them as well as Trane.

I need to look around and see if I can find my manual J and look up some info....

This almost sounds like you could be over saturating the air but you don't have any high humidity...

I honestly didn't think about this, and since I'm not in the field, I don't even know what this means...lol. It is spitting out cooler air than ambient, yet the temp isn't going down.

I did notice the air is cooler, but not cold. I'd say mid 60's, at the lowest. But even then, the house isn't cooling despite the lower temp coming out of the vents.

I had a very similar issue a few weeks ago. It turned out to just be a fuse that came loose.

Where is this fuse? I turned them off at the fusebox when I cleaned the condenser unit.

Unless you mean your vehicle AC, which is not what we're talking about lol

It was one of the cartridge fuses inside the AC disconnect box.

Interesting, didn't think of popping those out. Signs still point to refrigerant, in my mind, but worth a try. I actually pulled one when I got home an hour ago. Downstairs was 83, upstairs 85. Turned on both units, but one didn't kick on. Pulled that fuse and tried it again, success.

Seems to be off to a good star, downstairs is at 80 now, upstairs 81. 3 and 4 degrees in one hour, respectively. That has happened multiple times, however, and then it just leveled out around 78-80.

Can anyone recommend a stud finder that works well with lath and plaster walls? I have this Zircon E50, and it seems to be almost useless with these walls. I have found where the studs are by knocking, though I would prefer to find the exact center to drill into.

Here is what I have so far. My best estimates are more like 17" on center.

Can the stud finder you have adjust for wall thickness ?

It has a deep scan switch, though that doesn't help, it will just go off on spots where I know there is not a stud. When in regular mode I've been able to mark some spots on the wall where the stud generally is, through its not very accurate or consistent with the edge finding. The drill marks I've made are a best guess based on 16" spacing.

Lath and plaster can be hard to get a good reading through because of the irregularity in densities of materials

You could try one of those cheapo magnet stud finders , theoretically all the lath nails should be in studs

Scott here is a link to check out.....

Have you checked for any dampers that may be closed or not open at the required settings for airflow?

It just started raining really hard here so I figured I go check out my attic spaces for any signs of moisture since my roof was replaced two months ago.

    Look what I found!!!!!
