So I am in the mountains first time ever for a vacation road trip. I am at a loose dirt incline about 50 degrees, it's a long stretch. Should I use 4x4 high or just 2 wheel drive it? Stock tires lol

I'd try 4lo and just crawl on up it. Takes a lot of strain off the truck.

Too bad you don't have crawl control.

this is true. if you have crawl i would use it especially on stock tires. if that's really 50deg or something like that.

People crack me up on this site..
I wheeled some crazy stuff in my old '85 SR5, open diffs, no traction control back in Colorado, never got stuck (if you don't count floating it in the South Platte river once :p ). Pre-Tacoma.

Now anyone who doesn't have an e-locker may as well be driving a Civic
Not discounting what a locker adds, but come on.

Exactly! I've driven a 6 speed civic up a mountain before in the winter on all seasons and was fine. Come on dudes.

LOL, learned to off-road in an '85 Civic Wagon (4-wheel drive with low-range) back in the day. It was always priceless to show up at the top of a mountain pass (Colorado again) thick with lifted Jeeps in the Honda

Learning where/how to place your tires makes all the difference in the world. Often times a locker will just get the novice in over their head in places an experienced driver could walk through with open diffs.

Having said that, the locker in the hands of an experienced driver is a great asset. Either way any of these trucks can go some great places when driven correctly.

Can't we all just get along? :D

Makes you wonder how we ever got anywhere off road in the 70's and 80's without lockers! The old man had a friend with a 76 FJ40. Open diffs of course. He would take that thing places that would give a billy goat pause. The old man's 69 K5 blazer was no slouch off road either.

Knowing what I walked through in my '85 with open diffs, no TC, no "crawl Control" to save my ass when I messed up, I have zero regrets on my choice today.
I'd be lying if I said that, if I still lived in a state covered with legal off-roading at every turn and lots of "early 20's Single man free-time" to explore, I'd have looked more closely at the TRD Off-Road, but for my life now, in western PA where I DO go off-road, but not often, the Sport made more sense.

Get what works for your situation, and don't worry about it. Any of these trucks are quite capable.

50 degree inclines on dirt and you don't know whether 2X or 4X for your vehicle? just my opinion, but maybe avoid that for now.
