I understand the desire to transfer your TPMS over to new wheels from a cost perspective, but here's what I don't understand:

    1. You're paying to have the tire removed, TPMS removed, and the tire reinstalled on the wheel (and likely balanced to do it properly).
    2. Most of the folks looking for take-off's have steel wheels, so the TPMS doesn't transfer to the alloy wheels (some say you can flip it 180*, but nah).
    3. Pulling the tire off, installing a new TPMS, reinstalling the tire, and having it re-balanced has a cost and it's inconvenient. Not that alone, there a risk of damage to the wheel.

I'll admit, I'm looking for take-off's, but won't buy a wheel/tire package without TPMS. I want plug-and-play. If you have to ask $200 more for the package, I'll pay it, because it's better than the hassle of going to a shop and paying through the nose for a bunch of tinkering.

    Just a thought....

Save a bunch of headache and just make a pressurized canister for sensors.

You do know that the sensors are not a safety feature, right?

Their 1st job is to assist in maintaining fuel economy, the safety aspect is a bonus...as well as a marketing tool.

I considered that option, but I'm major OCD about having things work as designed...:D

Then forget about changing you wheels. Leave things alone.

You asked, I gave you my opinion. Thank you for allowing me to comment.

I don't think you need to dismount the tire to remove the sensor. Just break the bead and push the side wall down enough to remove the sensor.

Costs me nothing but time to swap over tpms and mount/balance my new set of wheels. The TPM sensors are less than a year old, why would I give them to someone picking up my take offs? Sounds like you bought a truck with cheap steelies and want to upgrade on a budget. Sad how you feel so entitled as to tell people how to pass on their leftovers and make a thread about it.

I interpreted the thread as the opposite.

The "wheeler" crowd want steel wheeles. The majority of Tacoma's come with some type of alloy wheels.

Second and turd gens can't run the majority of steel wheels without spacers and grinding on the calipers... Ask me how I know

    True.

Like I said, if OCD is an issue, best to leave things as they were original.

No offense to OCD conditions. It's not a laughing matter.

Not everyone has that privilege. Either in removing the units or adding the units.

Unless you find a very friendly shop (and they do exist of course) most places are going to charge you at least a 'dismount' fee plus your new rubber stem. Breaking the bead at home in the driveway is beyond the capability of many folks. Not to mention having a robust enough air source to reset the bead when done.

Actually, there is a thread on that here in TW where we kinda chuckle at our bad selves on that very topic. It's entertaining and therapeutic all wrapped up in a bundle of "yup, I get it"

Edit: sorry, back on topic...Air supply...they kinda sucked

OP - I understand where you are coming from. I bought a spare set of take off rims without TPMS. If they included TPMS I would have easily paid for the new ones for the seller. Since they didn't come with rubber it isn't that big of a deal since I can install TPMS before I put snows on them in the fall. Luckily the seller in my case was reasonable and discounted the rims substantially in light of him keeping the TPMS. Since buying them I have realized I will need to have the truck reprogrammed each time I swap to the other rims with their own TPMS. This may mean I am gong to have to buy a programmer as well. Nothing about TPMS is easy it seems.

I am not sure about other locations, but in west michigan, just about every bigger tire store will happily break the front bead on the factory wheels and tires to remove the sensors for free, to make a tire or wheel sale. I have used a few sets without the sensors and no rebalance, and there were no vibrations either, so the actual sensor weight vs a rubber valve set can be borderline negligible in some cases.

On my TRD Offroad, I did not like the style of the wheels, or the 16 inch diameter, so I bought T4R Pro wheels before I even bought the truck. Wheels arrived on Wednesday, bought the truck with 2 miles on odometer on Saturday and drove home from Ohio. Installed new wheels and new tires on Monday, and sold factory wheels and tires with 500 miles on Friday via craigslist.

I sold my nearly new factory wheels and tires to a second gen owner, who could not have been happier to upgrade his wheels and worn tires, and returned a grand to me to offset my wheel and tire upgrade, all in less than a week. Keeping my sensorless factory wheels and tires together and nearly pristine helped me return the most value.

My shop didn't charge me much at all to take out my tpms and reinstall them to my trd beads.

This should've been a WTB thread on your local region sub forum, the for sale pages, or Craigslist.

Shops charges free to $10 a wheel to pull/ install sensors. New sensors are $60 a piece. No brainer to me. I went from steel SR's to Alu and had to pay the price.

4wheel parts didn't charge me anything extra to pull the sensors from my stock wheels and transfer over to my new ones. I didnt feel like spending extra money so I can get low balled by someone and lose more money on the resale.

I really want the buyer of my factory wheels to be happy. I guess I'll transfer the TPMS back.

Edit: On second thought, I don't give a shit about the buyer's feelings. They can go get their own goddamn sensors. :)

Apparently you missed my comment about happily paying for them. If someone is getting new wheels and tires, then things are already "apart," and for someone wanting to upgrade to a factory set of rims, it's a PITA without the TPMS sensors. Not that alone, but my tires have less than 200 miles on them, and for the price of a set of take-off's, I could easily buy just about any 16" wheel I want for probably 1/2 to 2/3 the price of the take-off's. I don't necessarily need the tires. In my case, I just happen to like the styling of the factory wheels.

Just throwing it out there for future consideration of sellers. You might get more, and sell them faster by offering a bolt-on option.

I think what you maybe missing OP is most every trim level on the tacoma except the SR comes with alloy wheels, unless you buy an appearance package. Most of us are going from alloy to alloy so why would we want to buy new tpms when the factory ones fit the new aftermarket. If someone was going from alloys to steelies then yes your point would be valid.
