Is this all I need to add a transmission cooler to a base model 2008 2wd 4.0l V6? Would it work ?

This is all you'd need to upgrade the cooler if you already have the factory aux unit.

It's been over three years since I installed this and I honestly don't remember exactly what the factory lines look like or how they attach to the rad.

I assume that there would be inlet and outlet ports on your rad. I imagine You'd have to source the factory lines or the correct size fittings to add the Aux cooler.

Since this thread popped up again, I'll give a three year update. The fan and cooler are still working perfectly.

As you can see, how I use my truck has completely changed...

With the bigger cooler, I've never used the fan on the trail. I do use it occasionally while towing my trailer.

I used the fan a LOT when I had a 14' tandem trailer that I did firewood with.

I'm still curious about the whole thermostat on the transmission deal. I have a 2012 and I don't think I've ever seen it before. I figured it was a 3rd gen thing, but apparently, late model 2nd gens got them also. I really just don't feel like installing another trans cooler.

My shifts are much firmer and crisper now with my valve body being upgraded, so there will be less overall transmission heat due to less slippage to get a softer shift between shifts. I just don't know HOW much cooler we are talking here.

    AWESOME looking truck btw OP!

I looked into doing the valve body a while back when I thought about a S/C.

Never did the S/C so I lost interest in the valve body. Never even thought about it helping with heat.

It's supposed to help quite a bit, problem is, I don't know exactly HOW MUCH quite a bit is.

Either way, ensuring quicker and firmer shifting means clutch pack slippage is minimal. Less time spent shifting gears means less time making the clutches engage, less friction, less heat.

Probably cause the old one, like mine, has supply and return on the bottom. Could trap some air. If the top hose on the new one is the return, shouldn't trap any air. I always thought it was a bad design.

:edit: actually it seems the old one has the hose on top and the new ones are both on the bottom? Weird.

Since this thread got bumped again, I'll add that I have since upgraded the valve body. Definitely helps keep the trans from hunting as much. Also has much better feeling shifts.

Of course, the supercharger I'm in the middle of installing today will probably heat things up a bit :D

I don't know exactly. The SC with a TRD flash is supposed to get you 70 extra HP.

I did the SC, UCON (stage 2), Exhaust cam gears, 2.825 pulley, DT long tube headers, URD 3" "Cat-back", and fuel pump upgrade. I already had the DT Pipebomb Y pipe.

So... more than 70 more HP

Cut & broke off some stuff.
how do you know which temp is torque converter and which is pan?
My scangauge has a couple of codes I can program in to read ATF temp but doesn't say where they read from.

The pan is more stable than the converter. They'll both read about the same when you're cruising. When you accelerate or sit stopped in gear the converter temp will creep up.

I'm at a thing... so I can't tell you the codes.

But, the converter temp is the one that rises fast when the clutches start slipping.

If the trans is hunting, the higher temp is at the converter.
