After a while, your job math isn't so much about dollars but time. If you're commuting 100 miles a day, that's at least a couple hours YOU CAN'T GET BACK and no amount of money replaces that. Just sayin'.

Bulk materials is a fairly large industry. On the supply side, a road project could mean hundreds of thousands of yards at $17/yard (Caltrans bid price standard). It adds up. For a 25' wide road, every foot you drive is about 1 yard of material at 12" deep.

Not sure if that is the standard width or depth of base material. @Holloman @Gply @tacomgee can help with that one...

On a UCSF project we had to install 2000 cy of soil on 5 different roofs. We had $45/ cy in the bid to transport the soil to the roofs with hydraulic truck cranes. During a meeting, I brought up "deflection", from the weight of the soil, and within a week we were able to install the soil much earlier with the tower crane. Cost us $7/ cy. That's $76k to the bottom line.

It goes the other way too, but I try hard as fuck to not let that happen.

What the fuck do I know- I'm just a gardener ;)

Just a gardener? JUST A GARDENER!?

Next you're going to tell me Carl Spackler was "just a gardener"!

About 10 years ago, I had simultaneous projects at Santana Row, The Gap headquarters, and Mills College. All of my employees looked like Carl Spackler. I bought them tinted safety glasses and told them to move their eyeballs, not their heads. Perceived creep level dropped 90%.

I can't change human nature, I can only try to mitigate its flaws.

I've just got lowering springs and bushings so far. I despise the red color. It does not add HP.
