    RECOMMENDED !!! not MUST.
Is for gas economy and NOT for engine protection. Gimmick for US EPA so Toyota can sell trucks here.
I don't live in a cold climate and don't care for 1-2% MPG loss.

Stupid rest of the world...where US EPA can not reach its claws.

I really never had those problems... one spot the size of a quarter that weeped sometime in the last 19 months... service dept. torqued the bolts and sent me on my way. I take my truck in once a year for a oil change so whatever they see fit putting in my truck works for me.

Not sure if I can take some of the guys here seriously or they just trolling...Some of you are sooooo hung up on the book for oil specifications but have no problem chopping, drilling, cutting, bending, welding, lifting the hell out of a new truck without fear of warranty but are dead set on the oil RECOMMENDATION....Wonder what type of air is recommended....
There is a new SAE 0W-12 out, try it....thinner than water vapors. Will give you 6545375 MPG.

I worked at a Lincoln Mercury dealer and older vehicles took 5w30, newer vehicles took 5w20. We were all ways told from Ford that you can put 5w20 in a 5w30 vehicle but not the other way around due to the oil not being thin enough to get into the main bearings etc because of tighter tolerances on the newer engines being built.

Is it really that important. My mother inlaw just sold her Yaris with over 350k on it running the cheepest stuff they had at jiffy lub. I dont hear of people having lack of lubrication problems in today's engines. Most problems people have nowadays is poor quality of materials used not so much lack of lubrication.. Has anybody here ever wore out an engine, The guy that got a 1,000,000 miles on his tundra used normal oil.

This is what I was thinking... I just figured the tighter tolerances in the newer engines would have an issue w/ "thicker" oil. Just me, but the 0W-20 works fine and I change it every 6 months anyway.

You're exactly right... dead dinosaur juice is fine if you change it often. It all comes down what gives you a warm fuzzy on how well your engine is being taken care of.

Actually, while you're not incorrect, I was speaking about straight up conventional motor oils. If you want to change your oil more frequently, you can use that and get the same results/protection as synthetics.

Is the 3.5L engine in the taco made ONLY for US tacos or is Toyota using the same engine in other car models outside the US?
Curious what oil type is recommended in other countries without the BS from Al Gore and EPA.

AmsOil Signature gets my vote too that's what I use.

Note that the term "full synthetic" has no meaning other than there's some synthetic in it. AmsOil Signature is 100% synthetic.

I use Toyota oem oil and filter. Got it for about $4 a quart Synthetic. I'm sure other motor oils are good also.
