Aviation BS and Photo Thread

I've flown with one of the pilots in that very group, did my mountain checkout with him at the Aero Club

 

The Thunderbirds are awesome based at Nellis Air Force base. Before I moved to the south end of the LV Valley I lived close to Nellis and got to watch them practice as they flew over my house often as well as other planes from Nellis. When I was a kid, I got to take a tour of the Thunderbirds hangar even got to look inside the planes.

 

That is badass! The wife has another military exercise out in Nellis in January, I'm hoping to get time off from work so I can head out there for a week with her and stay on base. Check out the museum and the boneyard out there!

Last Saturday my wife and I visited the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum annex near Dulles Airport outside of Washington DC.

 

I love to walk aimlessly through that place.....

 

I'd have stayed longer but, you know, wife....

 

When I was in DC about 18 years ago my dad and I spent 2 full days looking around the Air and Space museum and still didn't see everything. With this place now open I'm sure it would've added on another full day at least. My step mom was all bent out of shape because she wanted us to go to the other museums with her too.

 

I wandered by this last week.

 

Just wrapped up my Seaplane rating. Incredibly fun. I actually haven't smiled this much flying since my first solo years ago.

...^^^... Dixie Wing @ Peachtree City, GA. I think that plane is out on show tour now. IIRC, the best time to gave a "donation" and go for a ride is after Labor Day or during the winter.

Udvar hazy is an amazing place. Is the Hellcat out of the workshop yet? They had an F6F fresh off the truck when I was there 5 or so years ago, it supposedly arrived that morning and the crew already had it in bits and was cleaning everything up.

 

I did not see a Hellcat. I still have my map of the museum. When I get home tonight I'll check and see if they had it on display. I might have missed it.

Yeah the resto garage is kind of full at the moment....

 

It's a damn shame too, because all of a sudden migs are getting real cheap on the used market.....
