Hi everyone, I just purchased a 2008 Toyota Tacoma with only 32,000 miles and what looked to be in very good condition. A week later I get a email from the dealership service director saying the Toyota frame recall is active. I already had the truck schedule to have the E02 leaf spring recall done so I asked them to inspect the frame while it was there. When I picked it up they had on the invoice that the frame had failed inspection due to a perforation in the right front part of the frame. I never knew about any of this frame recall before I purchased the truck. So the service director is going to contact me after speaking with Toyota regarding resolution. So question is what am I looking at here, a new frame replacement? This seems to also fall under the Massachusetts limited warranty for used vehicles, considering the frame is rotted through and basically a defect, possibly even a safety defect. I have only had the truck for about 2 weeks, so needless to say I'm pretty pissed!! Any feedback is very much appreciated!

I mean if they will fix it under recall I would keep it. You will have a brand new frame for the price of a headache.

32K on a 2008 and likely getting a new frame. Damn thing will be an antique by the time you wear it out.

If they are willing to replace the frame on a truck that you have only owned for 2 weeks, you have really dodged a bullet. It's supposed to be that you have had to have bought the truck before Dec xx, 2016 to qualify for a new frame.

Don't be pissed. You should be really happy you are covered by warranty.

If the dealer is going to replace it why be pissed ? I got a brand new shiney frame on my truck along with new leaf springs and lower control arms and now the entire underside of my truck looks new . The only thing that isn't new under there is my rear end

I'm upset that none of this was disclosed to me when purchasing the truck, considering the dealer supposedly did a full inspection before putting it up for sale. It will be great if they replace the frame but I still don't know that yet. Hopefully I will have a answer Monday or Tuesday.

Soooooo, you bought it from the same dealer that just now inspected the frame? That's pretty weird.

I have to think that if you took a peek under the truck before you bought it you would have seen the rust.

I always take a hard look under any used vehicle that I purchase...

Originally the truck was located at Herb Chambers Infiniti of Boston. I live near another Herb Chambers Toyota and they acquired the truck for me to look at. I purchased the Vehicle know of the E02 recall but nothing of the frame inspection program until the day I brought it in to have the leaf springs replaced. I received a email this past Saturday morning from the dealer service director regarding the frame inspection, so had them do it while the leaf springs were replaced. Needless to say it failed bring me to this point.

It's pretty sad that Toyota even with all the success that they have, we are still dealing with this type of problems. I don't think that the later 2nd gen models are not going to have this fate even with Toyota claiming that they changed frames supplier. I've seen trucks that already had new frame replaced are starting to have rust. You can even see rust on the welding on trucks that are new and sitting in the dealers lots.
IMO a good priming and good coating on these frames after they are assembled would prevent a lot of this mess.
If you look at the bigger trucks and semi's frames u will know what I am talking about. They are really old and don't have a single spot of rust.

I did look and I missed the perforation, it looked to have normal rusting for a New England car.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out. Toyota corporate (who pays the bill for the frame replacement) is not liable for your frame replacement, based on when you bought it. The Toyota dealer probably feels like crap for selling you a truck with a junk frame. So, is the dealer going to falsify the records to get Toyota corporate to pay the bill?

So I did read that to be part of the class action suit for reimbursement you had to own the vehicle before December 2 2016. So does this mean anyone who bought a Tacoma after that date and has a junk frame is screwed??
