My question is this - How come more people don't use the 275 tire size more?

Here's what i mean - I am closing down on some new rubber and rims for my truck and i will be getting 18" wheels. For the rubber, of course on here every one goes for the 285's because they look great and are meaty - i get the whole attraction. 265's are safe and fit within spec's and are the other top choice.

What i don't understand, is there some actual reason why 275's aren't chosen more. To me they seem the the best of both worlds, bigger and fatter than 265's with not the same amount of work required to make them fit as the 285's (cutting and lifting etc, etc...)

There are so many threads that are "what's the biggest tire size i can fit" on here and i realize that 275's will rub and require some work but it has to be less than the 285's.

After all of this i still may go for the 285's as well but i was just curious as to peoples thoughts on this. This doesn't really apply to all the guys that are going 285 or bigger because you already know that there is serious stuff you need to do first - this is mainly for the guys who don't know what the biggest tire that will fit without major problems is.

BFG doesn't make a 275. That's why no one talks about them.

When I was on the hunt for tires, I don't think I ever found anything in that size. Maybe some Interco's or something but I think those are way overpriced.

I have asked this question a couple of different ways without much response. BFG DOES make a 275/70/17... which is a halh inch taller and wider than the 265/75/16s I am now running.
