That seems insane to me. I really hope it works out for you, so much trouble with your truck and ecus. :annoyed:

Its not as bad as it sounds. Used ECUs are only $150-$200 on eBay depending on the day. I already have a Drewtech Mongoose. Programming an ECU only costs me $55 for a 48-hour Techstream subscription.

Technically, you don't need a cable. Only a paper clip.

But you don't know what calibration is in there without some sort of tool to read the calibration ID.

What if the one you buy on eBay had a TRD flash or some poor sap that had a BullyDog flash? I mean there are tons more non-supercharged than supercharged. So odds are in your favor you'll get an NA version. But I have the sort of luck so I want to see the calibration ID with my own eyes before I call it good.

Headers , cam gear and thermostat installed. Verified spare ecu N/A calibration file.

Time to schedule a session with gadget to reprogram the ucon for N/A ecu.

How big of a pita were the headers to install?

my friend at Toyota did all the work for practically free. He said it wasn't that big of a deal. Only issue I had was the passenger side o2 sensor not reaching even the upper bung. Ordered extension harness yesterday and will move them to the collector.

I'm happy with them .. not much louder more of a deeper tone. Stock y with trd exhaust.

It's not too bad. The biggest headache is the secondary injection setup on the 2012+ models.

Any CEL light after the header installation? Heard folks were getting them with the URD Spec headers since they eliminated the cats. O2 sims provided weren't working or something like that.

I would still occasionally get a cel with the o2 SIM installed. Not really a big deal, I would just clear the code and press on.

And your sim is installed in the proper fashion? Per the description page?

It sure was. Even swapped with Gadget for a second o2 SIM. Still happened just not as frequently. It's now removed since the UCON handles all that.

I bet the UCON will handle it better.

I remember there being a slight signal change from the 2012 plus models, or something of that nature being brought up as the reason why the O2 Sim was hit-or-miss.

Yeah I spoke with gadget and he said not to run the sims with the ucon. Not sure as to why? Im waiting to install the headers untill I get the o2 extensions. Did you guys need a new gasket for the block side?

And a BIG headache is rusted nuts/studs. Remember to change them to stainless ones and lubricate well (ceramic paste), otherwise removing the Spec-U headers might be impossible job.

I changed the nuts to ARP ones. The best tool to tighten them is this (size 10):
