I just read an article in Truck Tend on a 2007 Tundra reaching 1,000,000 miles and it had me thinking. How close is anyone who drives a Tacoma, reaching 1,000,000 miles. Truck Trend article stated it was used daily no doubt their. But limited wear on the engine .

There is a guy who posts here that was over 400,000 some time ago. I haven't seen an update in a while.

I think he bought a 3rd Gen and gave the 2nd gen to his son

Sadly I don't think a Tacoma has ever reached 1,000,000 miles. Hopefully I get to be the first

There was a fella with a 2nd gen that was putting miles on his at a furious pace a while back. He was a contractor for FedEx in northern California (as I recall) & he was up to about 675k before he stopped posting. At least I think that was the details. He was on pace to blow well past that mark but he quit posting & that was a couple/few years ago.

Some guy with a mid-late 90's 4X2 allegedly has 982,000 miles. He made a post about 6 months back or so. There is a picture of his odo on his thread, but I guess someone he knew posted the picture on his behalf, so who really knows. I bet someone has done it.

The guy who got 1 million on his Tundra was doing oil field hot-shots across the country, so they would have been almost exclusively highway miles, I would imagine.

Early 2000s , first gen went over a million miles. It had a picture in the back of the sales brochure at the time. It was a little 4 banger 5 lug truck. Toyota took that guys million mile tundra and gave him a brand new tundra. They said they were gonna tear the whole truck apart to look how well it held up. My guess is they were tearing it apart to see what they could make cheaper and not last as long.

I saw another (or it may be the same) article about that Tundra and Toyota had taken it all completely apart. They dynoed the engine and it was "still within the tolerances" of a new engine. Impressive. They brought all the engineers down from the makers of each component and they basically looked at why it had lasted that long and what would make it better. Pretty neat stuff!

There was a 2000 Taco that got 988k when Toyota traded him for a new 2017

I wonder if that's the same guy I'm thinking of. Some dude in the Central Valley CA was a courier in Ag business I think, and also played in a band so he was driving constantly. Had 600k+ I believe. Black Tacoma and the paint was in remarkably good shape from what I remember

I was looking at Audi wagons before I had a conversation with one of my customers about his Toyota. 2006 Tundra with 799k miles, no major issues. He finally traded it in back in 2014 for a new one after the dealer gave him an offer he couldn't refuse. As far as I know, it's still on the dealers floor with a priceless sticker. I was impressed and ended up getting my 2013 Tacoma. She will likely hit 100k in January.

1,000,000 miles divided by 60 mph = ~16,667 engine hours. Gas engines just don't last that long. The 4.7 is one heck of an engine.

Could be. I don't remember all of the specifics as it's been a while but I was surprised at the nearly complete lack of repairs required to that point. I was following the thread & then he just quit posting. Hopefully alright & just got a different vehicle or something & no longer felt the need to post.

The guy with the Tundra did it in 10 years. That's 100K per year. There were some minor parts replaced, but the engine and transmission were still original. IIRC the transmission lost reverse at about 800K and needed repair, but not replacement. His odometer stopped at 999,999 miles. But he was showing about 13K on the trip meter when he was given a new truck by Toyota. He also returned the truck to the dealer for ALL scheduled maintenance. He spent plenty on that having it all done at the dealer.

I read the same. My bet is they gave him a new Tundra in part because his truck gives them good press, but also:

    1,000,000/5,000 (oil changes) = 200

    200 * $50 (which...lets be real, is low) = $10,000

So just on oil changes, he spent probably around $10,000. Not to mention other maintenance. I'm betting he spent $15,000-20,000 on maintenance over the years at Toyota, so they got their money out of him anyway lol

I had 600k on my first gen when I crashed it. Still drove it home and I sold it. I'm sure it's still running somewhere down in Mexico.
