I got a quote from a local detailer, ball park numbers, 680$ for the truck if the paint is basically brand new (which it is), another 250$ if I want rims and undersides done (which I do, cause I'm a regular down at the gulf coast). I'm taking the truck to his shop this afternoon for an in-person quote and further discussion.

For me, what I want is ease of cleaning and some more UV protection. If it prevents some scratches that's cool, but it is a truck and I scratched it on the way home from the dealer. :mudding:However, my old 4Runner, because of the Texas sun, looks terrible because I didn't maintain the paint at all. This truck is way more expensive than my 4Runner was, and I hope to keep it 20+ years.

When I talked to my guy on the phone, he mentioned two types of products: a polymer based product that would need to be reapplied every 6 months, or a ceramic coating that was "semi-permanent". I'm going in the ceramic direction.

Seems like its not ceramic pro, I would do some research on the different coatings as they all have different properties, but thats a decent price. I would still get the paint corrected, my truck had 50 miles on it and still needed correction, the factory paint is far from ready to have coated even new.

Yeah definitely not the 5 year one, my detailer claims it's the 2 year from G techniq.

But paint correction is included and necessary for the ceramic coating.

Gotcha. Still a great price. I had the 2 year on my 15 and 16, you'll love it.

Or you can buy a $70 bottle of cquartz and put 2 coats on and call it a day. You can pay me $1500 for 2 hours worth of labor and a $70 bottle of ceramic coating.

I follow everything you said but a grit guard in the soap bucket seems excessive.

Whats wrong with using the dirty bucket with grit guard to get all junk out of the mitt, then dipping into soap bucket without a guard? I.e. 2BM.

Also... Just for shits n giggles... If you do wheels and tires last, your dirty bucket with grit guard can serve as the wheels and tires bucket when you're done with the paint... Saves money and room in garage on a 3rd bucket imo.

Your paint should be clear coated and just put a couple good coats of wax on it each year.. ceramic coats are a ripoff..

Not even close to the same but good try buddy. Some comical responses in here from some "expert" at home detailers.

Can't hurt to have a grit guard in all buckets so why not do it right? I see dirt tapped at the bottom of my soap bucket from time to time too.

Brake dust is very fine particles that can still be on your bucket and grit guard even through a good rinse. I did that in my 13 taco (black) not knowing any better and had swirl marks like crazy, could it have been other factors maybe, but consensus is you should have a dedicated wheel bucket.

Wax and sealant method will always be a good option vs a coating. It's nice having options in life.

I forgot to mention...technically your suppose to wash your wheels and tires first. But that's just me. Washing your tires last which are pretty damn dirty can get on your nice clean paint...right??

Well I loved my ceramic pro coating so much I'm considering coating food products as well. Notice the "sheen" on the banana bread.

Think my description of how to maintain a coating scarred him...
