In need of new Rotors & Pads? EBC or OEM?

    So you guys really suggest going back to oem after them only lasting 34k? I need to get some brakes this week cause I may be doing a 1000 mile round trip to the beach and back the end of next week!

    A few OE parts from fancy trucks
    An excerpt from post #9.............. "If the pads are evenly worn, but just down in the 40% range, that means they have another 25k left. Which is about right."

    Which means they didn't 'last 34k'. They are on track for 60k, which is pretty normal for a rationally driven street vehicle.

    Have you considered taking some of the steps in that post and see what happens?

    And other than just being annoying with pulsation, driving your vehicle 1k with the brakes as is is not an issue.

    My rotors are toast, when braking at 45+ the steering wheel has about a 1-2" wobble back and forth...... And if I'm gonna put new rotors on it its getting pads also so in another 10k I'm not putting pads on it!

    OK. But the OE pads were not your issue. And they are not worn out.

    Since you've chosen not to try some of the suggestions in that post (which is fine) at least read the article on proper brake bedding, and do that with whatever your new brakes wind up being.

    Sorry my original post was too long and complicated. I'll move along now. :hattip:

    OEM OEM OEM. They last the longest. Get the more expensive OEM pads if they offer two choices. You want the 100% ceramic pads for best bite and no brake dust.

    As for pulsing "warped" rotors you can just turn them. The pulsing is from an uneven pad material on the rotor face. Usually caused when your brakes are super hot and you let them sit. It will burn pad to the rotor.

    Also make sure you properly bed the new pads and turned rotors to get a good pad layer on the rotor.

    Your just gonna keep being in the same position in 30k miles if you don't bed them in. Just try rebedding you current set and see what happens

    • Find an open stretch of road that will allow you to safely stop your vehicle multiple times
    • Accelerate to 35 mph and apply moderate brake pressure to reduce your speed to 5-10 MPH
    • Repeat this process 3-4 times, the goal is to warm up your brake pads
    • Now turn up the heat even more by increasing your speed to 45 mph and braking down to 10 mph
    • Repeat this process 3-4 times
      • Pro Tip: It’s important to avoid coming to a complete stop during this stage as it’s possible to melt brake pads against hot rotors.
    • Your stop-and-go session is now complete. Park the car and allow the brakes to fully cool for an hour. For best results, avoid pressing down on the brake pedal when parked

    I did mine from 60 to 20 8 times and drove a couple of miles with no brakes too let them cool

    Now the real question is.....

    Going to buy a new set of rotors and pads, should I throw the new rotors on and use my old pads if they aren't chewed up that bad since they got about 40% life left. Or just put the new pads on and call it a day? :confused:

    I would also add that you should drive without using brakes for a good amount of time before stopping after you bed them. Or he will be back to pulsing.

    Get the EBC stage 5 kit, drilled slotted rotors with the yellow stuff pads and make sure you bed them in correctly they stopped AWSOME!!!!!!!!! as soon as a burn up another set of cheap Levines Auto pads and rotors im ordering another set of EBC off the web. Totally worth it!

    i have a EBC set for 5 lug trucks for sale but that probably wont work for you guessing you have a 6 lug. (long story)
