Only partially true. When it's raining, the rain fly actually drips water down where my ladder is. So getting into my RTT when it's raining is not fun. Also, removing dirty/muddy shoes before getting in the RTT is also not an easy task. Though I know you can purchase nets to hand your shoes below the fold-out portion of the RTT. With a ground tent, you can simply put your shoes in the vestibule and call it a day.

The price of most RTT you're within a few $100 of a brand new color match cap...

    You missed comfort!

If you own the tent why is the cost listed on the pros & cons list?

I could remove price. Just trying to show that the price of a RTT is likely much more than a ground tent. Though ground tents can be just as expensive if chosen. The RTT also requires mounting hardware and such.

I have a ground tent thats 3x + more expensive than my RTT.

Also, i've never seen a tent that you can stand up in, aside from the ~$10k mtn hardware/North face/Patagucci expedition tents. My summit series northface was expensive enough and it's only a 4 person.

I too dislike not being able to use the truck with camp setup, that's why a trailer is definitely going to be a priority in the future.

    Nice!

I have a Pelican 1750 sitting on my work bench with new foam waiting for me to do the same. But I don't have a spare drive shaft. I am gonna have to look into that.

totally forgot about those. I feel like that's more of an awning/awning room replacement though. Are they warm enough to camp in on anything but a summer night? I feel like there's a reason you don't see many of those in the mountains.

@Blackout14 @tacot0wn I'm only 5'-6", which makes deploying and packing my RTT a bit of a chore on the lifted Taco. It's mounted on Yakima bars on my cap. So I'm standing on the tailgate, standing on a tire, opening the rear door and standing on the seat, and sometimes using a step ladder to try to put the RTT ladder away. It really is a pain in the butt. Finding a large dome tent or cabin tent that can clear my mighty 5'-6" stature should be relatively simple.

Haha yeah I wish I had the cash for the Pelican stuff. I do wan to get a Pelican lid organizer for the kitchen box I'm making too. It's pretty awesome to have all my hard parts in one box though. Slowly getting ready for the cross country trek to Moab.

this is a whole new world to me.. Hm..

oh for sure. i totally get it, i have the same struggles. I just switched from a KB Voodoo bed rack to an Allpro rack over a softtopper. That made it just a couple more inches taller, and now i cant stand on my bedsides during opening so i'm standing on the tires, laying on the cab roof, standing on the failgate(weak POS), etc. Definitely a ballet. Still can have tent, awnings, and kitchen setup in 15 mins though - we have a good system.

My RTT is also cold in temps in the 30's/40's. I would think it's easier/safer to use a Mr. Buddy Heater in a cabin tent than it is a RTT. Thankfully my pup was with me on those cold nights, so I pulled him into the sleeping bag with me and we stayed pretty toasty.

When people use the Mr. Buddy Heater do they bring a CO (carbon monoxide) detector? Seems like a MUST HAVE!

I believe it has one built in if I am not mistaken.

EDIT: They call it a "low oxygen" sensor on the manufacturer site.

I only run mine for about 5-10 minutes. Gets the tent toasty warm and stays that way long enough for me to be in the sleeping bag asleep. I'll turn it on again in the morning to make getting out of the bag and dressed more enjoyable.
