Most dealerships are going to mail you coupons for stuff like oil changes, tire rotations etc

Tons and I mean tons of horror stories about them. Just use google

 

DANG. Mike check that out at home later then, and keep my eyes open for stuff in the mail. But might give Jiffy Lube a shot just to see how it goes, and then go from there.

 

Get a top sider and suck the oil out and change the filter. Dont even have to lay down and get dirty.

There are literally 100's of places that will change your oil. Go to any local garage and get it done

The issue with that is, it only takes one shot and they can do a lot of damage if they are careless or negligent.

I would get a Fumoto valve long before I go the top sider route... Think about it, where is all the heavy sludge going to settle in the pan? There's a reason you get the oil warm and drain it from the bottom, it's the most effective way to get all that sludge out of the pan.

Changing your oil is dead simple; you seem pretty clever so you should be able to figure it out. There's tons of 'how-to' stuff on the web for it; look a few over and give it a shot. Worst thing that'll happen is that you'll ruin your engine and transmission

 

Believe me, no one here is going to tell you that the dealership is the ONLY place capable of servicing your truck. We all know they have their own faults as well and you can get a crappy tech at a dealership or just someone who's mind is in a different spot also, the end result could be the same. Just do your research on any shop you take your truck to, check them out on BBB and read the reviews. If I were you, I'd have one of the local members come help you a couple times so you can change your own oil from now on. It's the best way to ensure it's done correctly. Plus, as you start working on your vehicle, you start to notice things and may pick up on a potential issue before it turns in to a problem.

 

+1 on the fumoto. I've got one on the FJ and it's awesome. Makes it super easy.

I'll also second what Rob said about Stealerships. We're always getting coupons from the local ones, most of the time it's a wash whether I do it or them with the coupon. I like to let them do it for the wife's t4r because you've got to remove the damn skid to get to the stupid cartridge filter, and it's a pita. Rather let them deal with it.

 

X2. Simple socket set and filter strap and your done in 15 minutes set up to finish

It really is easy as pie. I would order a Fumoto, EZ Oil Drain or No-Spill plug to replace the factory one on your first time, then after that you'll never have to get your hands covered in hot used motor oil again.

You can be like me and spend 18 years honing your technique so that you don't use a valve, but don't get oil on your hands either. Takes a lot of oily-handed practice, though.

 

I like those and the 17" wheels that come on the new 4TR
