Solution: change oil in the driveway. My FJ doesn't fit in my garage (though it would be nice if it did). So it's outside like a plebe for me

I've been lusting for those since they came out. Think they would look pretty good on the white F'n'J.

I sat in underwriting for two weeks on mine and they still told me it was a fast closing in comparison to the norm (a bit over a month).

I have perfect credit, was 6 years into the same job for the same employer, salary versus the mortgage amount wasn't an issue at all, and I gave them more statements and pay stubs than they asked for because I didn't want them to come back wanting another month and have another week wasted. I can't imagine they see me as much of a risk. Made me wonder how long it takes for someone in a questionable situation.

They came back to me at one point wanting proof of the balance I told them I had in my bank accounts. I printed them account summaries from online banking, lady at the branch said that should be fine. Next day they said no, they want statements. So, I got them those.

What do they think I'm going to do? Lie about my balance and then not be able to cut a check for closing?

But at least it's done now.

Mine wasn't even that complicated and it was still a production.

I am happy with how it went in general. They didn't make me do escrow, I write my own checks for insurance and property taxes. Everyone I know who has that handled by the bank has had it messed up at least once.

I don't make anything to brag about (working in public education has its perks, but salary isn't one of them!), but I'm responsible and was looking at something that I could very comfortably afford. Plus, when someone in their mid 20s walks in with a credit score in the 800s they're probably not a moron.

I kept getting told by random people that I should look into all kinds of grants/subsidized programs. I'm pretty sure I'd be above the income requirements anyway, but from an ethics standpoint I would have an issue with it, so I didn't even feel comfortable looking at it. What entitles me to anything that I didn't directly work for?

@Cativelense I'll teach you. Easy peasy. Go get a 5qt jug of your favorite 5W-30 synthetic oil plus one extra quart. Then get an oil filter. I won't tell you to get a Mobil 1 M1-209 filter (larger version with more filter area than the replacement size) as oil filter discussions turn ugly if you don't recommend a Toyota filter... Once you get that, I'll bring my metric wrenches, creeper, grease gun and show you how easy it is to do. Otherwise you come to me but we'll have to wait for the truck to cool down. If I come to you, the only requirement is that you not have started or driven the truck that day.

I buy two 5 qt jugs at a time. The single quarts are expensive. Then that second jug lasts me several oil changes before I need to worry about another one.

I also buy Toyota filters, but mainly because I think it's tough to argue the price/quality ratio. They cost less than $4 at the dealer.
