Another nice build. I think the graphics from the last build were a great choice and when done tastefully(like what you did) has the potential to really bring in interest. Keep up the nice work! Its great to see dealers put quality into a build and not just screw over somebody who doesnt know what they are buying.

Awesome to see the build done right.
I saw a 2017 tacoma in a showroom with a advertised 6in lift. For 13K$$ added. POS had 4in spacers in the front and rear and fox shocks. And not a single rep wanted to/was able to explain anything about the truck. 50K out the door for a dcsb offroad with the headed seats navi sunroof package... looked cool though LOL

The sad part is OP's build is 100X more practical than that BRODOZER... but people will probably throw money down on the dozer cuz it looks kewl.

So OP, since mods don't add value why are you doing this? Just for fun?

Who foots the bill? You still work for a dealership that's driven by its bottom line, right?

That said it's a nice truck for sure

YOUR mods don't add value. A dealership+new truck is another story. But there is always room for negotiating.

Could you list the specs of the original truck, mods you made, and final selling price?

Good looking truck. I might want one.

I think he said 48k on one of the builds. Not sure about the black truck. I should have known to read the whole freaking thread before I posted a question.

Looks good. You should move to Texas and do trucks down here.

. Your comment is a little harsh. He gave credit to the tech, even said he picked the parts for the build and the tech did the install and custom fab work. I don't see where he even alluded to doing the build himself. He made the build happen by choosing what to buy and include on the build, tech did the install.

Even with the work you do, you wouldn't be able to do it if it wasn't designed, funded, and parts purchased, right?. They give you the opportunity to do the work. Have you ever given anyone above you credit for designing or coming up with a concept for you to install? "Hey Mr. Manager, great idea for this build. I like the way your idea for this build turned out. These upgrades really work well In this vehicle. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to build it."

    Kuddos for the apology.
You get paid to do the work right? The only credit I need is a paycheck.

This is a tricky one to answer, I guess just hard to put into words that will make sense to everyone.

That's right, these mods don't add much value, everyone here knows that. It's like putting a pool in your back yard, could cost you $100k and only change the resale value of your home $10k if you get lucky. It also limits the number of potential buyers because most people want it done their way. Funny thing is that I'll probably sell this truck 5 times before I find someone that can really buy it and has the means to pay for it.

So that being said there are a few reasons to build it.

1 It is REALLY fun for me. It's almost more fun that if it were my own, I can build one, sell it, and do another completely different a couple of weeks later. Who else gets to do that? Most people buy them and build them to drive for years, it's the only way it makes any sense financially.

2 It attracts a lot of attention and gets other future Tacoma buyers excited to see what is possible. I'll probably sell 10 extra stock trucks because some guy that was in for service sees it and didn't know that such things existed. I put it in the showroom yesterday morning and had people taking pictures of it all day. Really a good feeling.

3 Making/Losing money is the gamble we take every day in every business. Can't make it if you don't try though. My store probably averages 10 to 12 vehicles a day and every sale is a gamble. Trade values are subjective and opinion, no two people would value them exactly the same. Some you win, some you lose. I just had one blow the engine on the way to the auction, lost 2800 bucks. Stuff happens. It's not as cut and dry as most car buyers perceive. Most people take it too personally, which I get. Too many shady dealers have made it too difficult. I've always said that we need to just be honest. Even if the buyer doesn't get the car or deal they want they can still respect honesty.

The expense for all of the parts is paid by the dealership but it's a temporary expense. It's most definitely a gamble but I'd hope to get it back when the truck sells. $13k in parts and labor to "sit around" for a little while and not 100% guaranteed to all come back. So basically what I do is price the truck at MSRP plus my bill. Right now it's just over $52k. Don't start flaming me just yet. I do it that way because I don't care if I sell it really fast. Everything is negotiable. Most of this is advertising and I'm sure I'll reduce the price eventually. I negotiated on the first one only a week after the build because the guy just had to have it and he wanted it for the right reasons so we worked it out. There's no easy way to do it and everyone on the planet has different expectations and perceptions so no two people feel exactly the same about it. That's okay, that's my job to figure out.

My dealership's philosophy on pricing is great and customer focused. EVERY other Tacoma in-stock right now is marketed online and on the lot at invoice. We don't start at MSRP and negotiate on any vehicles, except this one truck. (And only because I'm kind of still attached to it lol.) We believe in a fair profit and as much repeat business as possible. Like I mentioned earlier, I've been in this store for 21 years, started as the summer lot porter in 1996. Just found out last month that we are the number one dealership in Central Atlantic Toyota for percentage of repeat buyers, I hope that has something to do with the way that we treat people and the efforts of my team.

I realize that everyone will have their own opinions and that's cool. That's what makes my job fun and interesting (and challenging some days). There's no right or wrong, we just do our best. Thanks again for all of the feedback!

Nice truck for sure. I wish the dealers in my area would do something like this. All I see at just one of the four dealers around me is add spacers to 4runners and tacomas then add a 5k "lifted" price.

I'm seriously considering them when I go to replace the stockers.
