Figured id ask here before starting a new thread

Pretty sure my battery is taking a crap. I have a lot of corrosion on the negative post and some now on the positive. Seems like it maybe undercharging (or maybe something else i haven't yet diagnosed). It has gotten to the point where it stumbles while starting now. However, when i shut it down, i no longer hear the smog pump cycling down.

Is that something else i should look into? This all started within the past week between noticing excessive terminal corrosion, a semi-longer starting cycle, and now the smog pump. I haven't yet put it on a tester (it didn't really seem low enough to raise concern until today)

Sounds like a new battery is needed. I know mine has bounced around a lot and has leaked on a few occasions. Is yours stock battery?

Yes stock battery (2015). Seems early to me but wouldnt be suprised that its already failing. Theres enough crap wired to it that premature failure seems plausible. Not like toyota has a good history of great batteries. All my stockers usually fail within 5 years. But 2.5 years seems really quick

Totally agreed. But this isn't the old days. Things are made to fail quickly to to keep the economy flowing. Lol .my old batteries last 5 plus years.

I have always put a AAA battery in or gone to AutoZone or pep boys. I typically buy the middle priced battery, as they typically have low, med, and high priced. You I would look at what @dtaco06 is running in his 4runner, for all the crap he runs off of both of his batteries. Or do a dual set up like him.

Not practical for daily driving. But I definitely want to get dual batteries one day haha. Good thing I have all that room under the hood of my 3rd gen to fit when the time comes

I'm an optima yellow guy. Make sure they give you the correct battery. The correct battery if you have the tow package is a 27F most places try to give you a size 34 battery but it's undersized if you have the larger alternator

The Optima red top that's been in my truck since 2013 is still going strong.

I've heard not-so-great things about Optima though since they were bought out several years ago...does Interstate own them now? Just saw them on their website. Always figured Interstate to be a good brand

Must be nice. 40 miles each way for me. Can't wait to convert my dirt bike to a dual sport
