Last night I got my amp installed and wired in my 1996 4Runner. I've put in a new pioneer head unit and new speakers in each door.

I wired the door speakers to the amp because the guy who had it before me screwed up the wiring (the only speaker what would play was passenger front and there was a lot of stuff disconnected).

I'm pretty positive I have it wired correctly, but I did use the wiring kit Amazon recommended, which was not super expensive.

When I tried to turn my car on when I was done, I got nothing. The engine doesn't turn over at all and all the lights that would come on with a dead battery on the dash do. The stereo turns on but the amp never has.

Battery connects were cleaned. Tried a battery charge and a jump. Is this an amp wiring issue? Or a battery one?

Do you have a fuse or circut breaker in the wire from your battery to your amp?

Yes I do. I'm going to check all the wires again when I get home and also check the fuses. Not sure if there is a fuse that would keep the car from starting or not

Did you connect the remote turn on lead? If not, the amp would just stay on until your battery was dead.

Most likey no. The fuse keeps your car from starting on fire if you cut a wire or your amp frys.

Amp would only stay on when the vehicle is off, if the remote input was connected to a constant source of power.

Amp needs fused power from the battery, chassis ground, and a remote turn on source ( blue wire from the radio harness, or accessory power).

I would have your battery tested and go from there. If the amp never turned on, I wouldn't consider it the issue. But the radio install might be an issue, if it always has power(i.e. doesn't turn off when you pull the key out of the ignition)

It's alright, I figured it out. Had the amp connected to the wrong blue wire (apparently I had two). As for the battery, the alarm was going off and I don't have a key fob, so I had to take the fuse out. Took forever to figure that part out though :annoyed:

Okay, next issue. The radio signal is absolutely horrible on this head unit (It's a Pioneer AVH). I have a brand new antenna assembly, so I know it's not that. But it makes absolutely no difference whether the antenna is plugged in or not. Anyone have any suggestions? I feel like I saw something about an adaptor for the antenna, but I'm not sure??
