I picked up 1.5 mpg on the way back down the hill. I have been averaging 21.5 mpg with each tank. I really don't drive aggressively anymore. It's a truck and I don't have anything to prove and don't have to be anyplace fast. My old truck I really had to work it to get to the speed limit and keep it there. It had the 3.SLOW with 33X12.5 tires and 4.56 gears. This Tacoma is a joy in comparison! I don't care how long my commute takes. :)

Yup. About a little over a month ago, before any real legit smoked tail light mods were in the market.

What do you think about the Duratracs? How much more noise do you notice? Thanks!

I haven't taken them on the highway but from what I've experienced they aren't that much louder than stock (I do have dynamatted doors). They do have a slight "whine". I've ran nokian hakka 8's in the winter and these are nowhere near their noise level. The truck actually feels more enjoyable to drive for some reason. I got duratracs because they were one of the only c loaded tires in 265/75/16 that were also winter capable.

If you're surfing, sharks are likely out there too but you just don't see them ;) they all mind their own business (in almost every situation )

I have OEM 17-in 4Runner TRD Pro matte black wheels (part # PTR20-35110-BK) , BFG LT265/70R17 load range C All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires (part # 66255), and OEM chrome lug nuts and OEM wheel locks

I'm on stock Sport suspension, no lift or leveling kit or modifying of any kind. No rubbing or issues at all even at full lock, over bumps, etc.

Tires are only a little larger than stock, largest that fits on stock suspension without any rubbing I believe

Stock TRD Sport wheels and tires
    • Wheels: 17" diameter, 7.5" wide, 30mm offset
    • Tires: P265/65R17 size, 30.6" diameter tire, 10.4" wide, 6.8" sidewall
TRD Pro wheels and KO2 tires
    • Wheels: 17" diameter, 7" wide, 4mm offset
    • Tires: LT265/70R17 size, 31.6" diameter tire, 10.4" wide, 7.3" sidewall
    Overall gain
    • 20mm wheel offset, 1"/3.3% tire diameter, 0.5"/7.4% tire sidewall

I always thought gas mileage was worse at higher altitudes... But a quick google search says I'm wrong lol

"In the case of gasoline engines, the higher altitude theoretically leads to lower fuel consumption due to lower throttle frictions due to the wider throttle opening. From the other side, as the air is less dense at higher altitudes, the vehicle aerodynamic is changed and this also leads to lower fuel consumption."

"When an engine requires lower levels of octane to “fire,” the overall efficiency of the engine is also lowered, which means the engine works harder to achieve the same results. However, less fuel burns, which means the overall fuel-per-mile efficiency is increased because the engine is working at a reduced compression rate. In short, you can get higher miles-per-gallon at higher elevations, but the power of the engine is also somewhat reduced."

Before going up in tire size i was getting 21mpg with my 2017 4x4... With the 2016 2wd i was averaging 22-23. I'm in Florida... I seen lots of people complaining they only get 17-18 and just figured they must be higher up...

Now I'm averaging 18-19mpg after tire swap.

But i have yet to go through a full tank to do the math myself... I'm wondering... Since the speedo is off by about 2mph at 50mph, is the mpg also calculated wrong? More miles per hour therefore more miles per gallon???

I don't think wrap around the hood is good looking to me. It's too much sticker and I think just the scoop is perfect.

I'm curious why some folks add a switch for the winch. For added security of possible battery discharge?

I think it's more as a security/kill switch thing from what I've seen. I'm not too sure but it seemed to be the more common practice. I figured I'd plan for that. The winch phase of my plans are a ways away. But I needed to make sure I had a switch location just in case.

Yeah I think this one uses the smaller ones like what's under the AC panel in the center console area right?
