How do you see that as fail? It looks like a win to me. Sure, there was a little setback when he lost the rear end, but he recovered and continued on, in mud that would be tough to walk on, let alone drive on.

u can hear the truck been more gas as the driver approached the rut.. I believe if the truck was guided thru carefully on low range, the damage would have been prevented. Thus a fail in my book.

I watched it again with sound and according to the spectators, there was bumper and taillight damage. I didn't pick that up the first time. I'll go with driver fail, but not epic. :D

Yeah...There LOTS of better ways to tackle that kind of obstacle (that don't involve landscaping with a shovel or gunning it)

    Fail-Yes. Epic- Not really.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
Yeah that's Derek, I am sure if he had it to do over he would change his approach a tad however any dude that has the sack to do what that cat does with a prerunner is good in my book. As they say you pay to play.

    Not fail at all :notsure:

I dont think you can really say it was a fail unless you were there in the truck. Im sure that trail was way more intense than the vid makes it seem.

It's hard to tell from the camera angle. Stuff always looks easy in pictures and videos. From what I can see, I would have crawled on the right side of the road trying to straddle that big rut on the right. I wouldn't hit the gas unless I went into a rut and I had to so as not to get stuck.

That really isn't that bad of an attempt. He didn't do it perfect. But if it was easy to do it perfect, wheeling would be boring.

That sounded and looked alot worse on the video. Not nearly as bad as I thought it would look. Still a bummer tho.

Were you guys there? No. Were you driving the truck? No.

It was snowing, and it had been raining a lot before that. That mud was a good 4 inches thick.

That mud was impossible to walk on. A few guys (myself included) ate shit completely. Yes, because I have a PreRunner I had to give it a bit more gas because I can't just crawl over things. By the time the video had started recording, I was already sliding. It was either keep sliding and wind up with my bedside crashing against the rut, or speed up a little and hit it with my bumper instead. I chose my bumper.

Also, I was the lead truck and people didn't know what to expect out of that. Unfortunately, I was the guinea pig.

I just needed to replace my tail light. No big deal. Still the best trail run I've ever been on.

    $60 wasn't too bad. :p

Don't be offended. That's part of wheeling. Most guys who posted said you did a decent job.

If you read my post I admit it is difficult to tell anything on tape.

No, I wasn't there but I have a lot of experience in similar conditions. You're not the only person who has hit rutted out mud.

I didn't realize you had a Prerunner. Then yes, you are correct, you did need some momentum to have a chance.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I tried to compliment you and down play the carnage.:)

Lots of folks get paid LOTS of money to watch videos and comment on them...Even tho they weren't there. Look at any sports channel.

Just because we "weren't there" and "weren't driving" doesn't mean we can't see what was going on. That may have been the best choice you could make....but it still didn't work out great because you tried in the first place.

(And I think there are photos around here somewhere of the mirror I ripped off my truck trying to follow a Jeeper thru an obstacle. We've all made less than ideal decisions.)

Edit- Photo Proof that I'm a dumb ass:
    DSC03100_edaa664d4fe2492810f9341fe5dcea438e36c341.jpg
That's the rut I was in. I'm still looking for the photo with my goofy ass holding my passenger side mirror.

Oh none taken! People just underestimate how bad that mud really was and how fast it was pulling me. Gravity was NOT on my side. :p

Yeah I know it wasn't the best choice, but we learn from our errors. I'm sure you won't be doing what you did when you tore your mirror off ever again!!

    :)

That rut you were in looks NASTY!

That trail was supposed to be easy!!!!!
