True that, I ordered a RMR last year and it was so a Chinese knock off, even had legit packing and the case with instructions like Trijicon has. Was able to return it though and get a full refund.

He'd be fine with accessories. It's not a firearm.

Lots of Magpul, Trijicon and Vortex counterfeits actually.

    Whole lotta stuff
In terms of aftermarket magazines, I've had issues with hex mags. Mostly bad retention, the detention in the body of the magazine being molded too shallow, causing the mag to drop with regular shooting. I always give my mags a firm tap to make sure they fully seat, the hex mags I've had have seated and then fallen out after 1 or two shots.

I had some major problems with my first set of Hexmags which were the 1st gen versions, I called them because they have a lifetime warranty to try and get the issues solved. With in 5 minutes on the phone with them I had a confirmation that all of my mags from them would be replaced no questions asked with the newer 2nd gen version. All I needed to do was email them a picture of the followers and so I did. 10 minutes later I got a phone call from them with a tracking number and that they were being sent 3day to ensure they would arrive in time for a defensive carbine course that I mentioned that I was taking that same weekend. The 2nd gen. version has worked flawless as any other magazine should. That is some great customer service!

If you ship the stock FedEx, UPS, USPS, or whatever, it's best to be vague when they ask what's inside. While not illegal to ship non-serialized gun parts, most places have internal policies that are more restrictive. Sometimes it's plain ignorance on the clerk's behalf where they're not sure and don't want to risk getting in trouble. Had a buddy ship me some stuff and he ended up going to three different places because they told him they would not ship "gun parts" of any kind.
Third place asked: "what's in the box?"
    "Plastic puzzle pieces."

Avoids extra unnecessary hoops and you're not breaking any laws (as far as I know).
