    Yeah...about that.
Had my connector fall out of the shifter today...it's been +90°.
It sucked driving around in D.

Any update on when this could be available for the 4-cylinder trucks?

I saw the question asked but I did not see and answer...Can this device be used in conjunction with the Scan Gauge II...Y connector connected to the OBDII port?
I tow a travel trailer and monitor my trans temps.

    Thanks, Greg

I definitely do not miss the stomping I had to do before SSP. Can't remember the last time I stomped. Loving the SSP life.

We recommend against using splitter with fast-polling devices because in some (rare) instances those devices can start to hog bandwidth over OBD, slowing the data that the SSP is looking for. However, if you are only monitoring temps with the scangage, those are typically slow data-refresh rates so I would not expect any issues at all.

Thanks. I was hoping this device would alllow the trans to holdback 4th up grades while towing to keep my trans cool. When it continually down shifts it heat up very quick. Will it hold 4th longer while towing? Thanks

You should be towing in S4 anyway, per the owners manual.

Yes, that is one of the primary intentions of the device. Minimum upshift speed to 5th is 52mph. At speeds above that, it shifts up based on accelerator pedal position (demand). The SSP shift map is generally higher speed than OEM, so it will hold 4th longer before upshifting, especially in the low-mid throttle range. (see shift-map image on website)

Since the SSP is basing its shifts on pedal, in that 52-65 mph range you can pretty much use the gas to command what gear you would like to be in. If you want it to hold 4th, keep steady moderate pedal pressure. If you want it to upshift to 5th, feather the gas slightly without letting off, and it will upshift.

I agree with you on this btw when pulling trailer. It is much better when running steady in 4th, and keeps the tranny much cooler than the constant shifting up and down from 5th/6th. I had pulled an enclosed hunting trailer from PA to colorado when I first bought the truck (before SSP) and locked it in S4 for 3600 miles, running at 70-80 mph and it ran great!. The higher RPM took some getting used to, but looking at the performance curves, thats where this engine likes to operate! And gas mileage was better than my buddies F150 pulling equivalent weight.

How does this work with engine braking? Seems most of this is based on speed vs. engine load so where now my truck does a decent job of automatically shifting to 3rd on declines to minimize riding my brakes, would this hold true with the SSP?

What is being done to make the black box fifty times smaller? That is the barrier to my purchase.

Is the pigtail to the shift lever long enough? I looked at the install video and it didn't look very long thus limiting placement.

People usually hide it under qi charger and I think some even hide it behind dash.

I'm testing a mount location, vertically, cable connector down, just ahead of the console using a piece of foam mounting tape. There is smooth plastic there I suspect is ducting (I didn't crawl under the dash far enough to see what it actually is). The transmission pigtail is long enough, I can hear the beeps and if I need to power it off, its available by feel. It's practically invisible in this location. If it continues to work without a problem, I'll use the provided double-backed adhesive. I used smaller zip ties on the protruding screws at the lower edge of the dash to hold the excess OBDII cable.

    D engine breaking is better.

But my brother nderstanding is SSP purposely doesn't do it quite the same. So when I know I'm coming to a grade I'll manually shift down or put it back into D.

Minor issue considering how great the SSP is 99% of the other times.

I'm going to post this in the classified section later today, but I ended up going with the OV tune, so I have a Shift Sense Pro for sale. It's only been used for a week and works perfect. I'll let it go for $150 shipped if anybody's interested in saving themselves $25 off the price of ordering one.
