People may leave Toyota for other brands.. Bet most will come back when the domestics fall apart and they realize that the quality is not there... When they go to try to trade in the Colorado or whatever, the last slap on the face will be the trade-in value.

My wife drives a MB GLK 250D. I love driving that 2.5L diesel, great powerband, 30mpg efficiency, plenty of grunt & passing power, also fine traction and sweet suspension for our marginal road surfaces. I would pay extra for a diesel TRD OR Tacoma in a heartbeat, but alas I doubt it will happen.

Why would toyota partner with Cummins when Toyota is the parent company of Isuzu? You'd sooner see a duramax (which is branded duramax but just an isuzu engine) than a cummins.

Nissan is currently using cummins because they partnered with cummins in it and the nissan truck is based off a dodge. Why the fuck would toyota pay Cummins, which is owned by ford to use their engine when they already have a diesel engine company?
Dealer is just being a lying shit like they always are, and they don't know anything majority of the time. So ya he's full of shit dude. Aint no diesel coming. If there was you'd likely already hear about it. AND even if some how toyota kept it quiet and what not, it would not be a cummins.

For fuck sakes Dodge has a partnership with Cummins and they don't even use a cummins in their eco diesel lol. Its a damn fiat engine. And from what I've heard that V6 cummins thats in the nissan titan isn't all that good.

There isn't likely ever going to be a diesel. Above all other reasons, they flat out do not sell in the US. There is no point to offering one.

A hybrid is far more likely eventually, IMO.

dude with all the shit with diesels no one wants to. May not be big in the papers yet since its still in investigation but Fiat is being looked into for the same shit as VW was doing. For those not aware almost all the Chrysler diesels excluding the Cummins ram are all fiat diesel engines.

I'm convinced GM is lobbying to not be bothered about their diesels as they seem to be the only company that makes diesels in North America that aren't being looked at. Give it time and Merc will be as well

Volvo just announced all vehicles in 2018 will be either hybrid or fully electric.
Its only a matter of time before trucks are Hybrid as well. I'm just hoping for a hybrid type like in the Mclaren, Porsche and Ferrari, where the electrics help aid power. Why not? Electric motors have 100% torque instantly.

Would be cool if it was run all electric in stop and go traffic or have both when you want the extra power. As long as it isn't like the dumb prius that is electric under light throttle and slow speeds then gas on highways. I want both engines cause i want more POWAAAAAAAA

No doubt. Depending on how it was implemented, I'd be all over a hybrid Taco like white on rice.

What if this demonstrably poorly tuned engine and whacky shifting is a long-term plan for Toyota to launch a more expensive diesel option next year!?! That way they bank on people trading them in in droves, tanking the value of the 16-17 tacomas in the process!

    You guys think of that!??!

    As would I.
I used to hate the idea of hybrid from the prius as it was a lame use lol
But with this idea of assisted power from electrics, right on.

In all fairness its only a matter of time. Many things we have in vehicles now days come from motorsport. They start as testing there then trickle down. Right now F1 uses KERS and the porsche mclaren ferrari are the first street legal production cars that have it. Its only a matter of time before its in lower level sports cars, and won't be long for vehicles in need of high starting torque.
Figure all trains actually run electric DC motors. Its only a matter of time before the technology is there for our trucks to be using a mix of the two for the low end torque electric motors offer.
I'd say by 2020, maybe 2025 the latest we'll start seeing majority of vehicles as hybrids.

dude I'd go nuts for it.
Even better if I can have it as plug in. Charge the truck each night for my commute to work, have both when I need the power and extended range? Who wouldn't want that?

Only downside is if something goes wrong, holy fuck will it be expensive.

Pair it with a small turbo diesel engine and armor the shit out of the batteries.

They'd run into issues with weight, towing/hauling capacity, and battery puncture risk issues. They'd probably also have to waterproof electric motors--since these will potentially be driven in water.

Here is why I don't think they will. Toyota isn't a bleeding edge company. They build moderately performing vehicles that are stupid reliable. That means uninspiring, older vetted technology with very little risk taking.

This would be the first of it's kind, risky, and less reliable (due to newer technology).
