several times I stopped in soft mud, loose rocks, etc.. and tried to get them to slip, or test their grip and they did well each time....

I wish I could say the same for your pizza cutters that EASILY spun when you threw rocks all over me and my truck ;)

Pizza cutters FTMFW. After running both 285s and 255s, I much prefer the 255s. Only area the 285s win in for me was the looks department.

The main thing for me is no rubbing. I don't rub at all with my 255s, whereas my 285s rubbed the fenders when stuffed. I'm not talking the fender liners either, but the actual fender/fender flares. With the 255s pulled in tight, that's never been an issue. The other thing is the rolling resistance. My 255s are just as heavy as the 285s IIRC, but with less rubber on the ground, it's easier to get going from a stop, and I notice it less on the highway. They are also quite a bit cheaper. My Maxx were $185 shipped to me and my Cooper MTP 285s were $215, so $120 difference overall. Keep in mind that's considered inexpensive for a 285 and if I wanted a Maxx in a 285, they are $252 a pop. Like I said though, you can't beat the sweet stance of a 285.

    Especially with pepperoni

I can appreciate your train of thought... I have always loved 285s and I think with proper wheel offset you can keep them tucked in the fender even at max flex.

And although they look similar on paper, the 4.0L blows the 3.5 out of the water stock for stock in drivability. So I think this thing will push 285s with ease.

Both trucks I've owned have been second gens with a 4.0L and a manual trans, which has a better final gearing than the auto. I agree though that with a properly offset wheel you can minimize rubbing, but never fully eliminate it, and wheel choices are also limited because most stick out 1.5"-2" over stock. Just the nature of the beast. I'm not knocking 285s by any means (there are a hell of a lot more options), they're just not for me anymore.
