My friend just scored a sweet deal on some cdcv from cos and rear omega bypasses for her 4runner. The deals are definitely out there but I will say that a top tier suspension is definitely worth the money in long term reliability, performance and ride comfort.

I've got front cdcv resi coil overs with upgraded 700# springs, deaver u402s, cdcv rear shocks and the icon bumps and that combo is unreal. The truck just rides perfectly on road and performs amazing off road.

Naturally part of my choice was SDHQ based, they are the largest stocking distributor of Icon products in the world so I had a great working relationship with the guys over there but that wasn't the only reason. Truthfully I could have run anything I wanted, price played no role in my decision.

There is a reason Icon has chosen to run a digressive tune, and it's because they personally test all their own products, be it on company vehicles like the ExpoRunner (2016 Tacoma) or their own personal trucks. People tend to forget that these trucks we are building are primarily daily driven trucks, so road manners should be equally as important as off-road capability.

Driving down the road I want a shock that's going to stay firm upon initial impact when it falls into a pot hole (looking at you Tucson people) as opposed to compressing too fast causing the truck to overeact. Icons valving is specific to the Prado 120 front, which, they developed by auctually testing them on a platform. King, Fox and other brands are setting their shims based on GVW.

Icon is also a complete suspension manufacturer. They have complete kits- various shock options within the line, springs, UCAs, secondary shock kits, bolt on bumps etc etc. They do this to ensure that every thing works in conjunction with everything else.

If you want the honest truth, best shocks out there in terms of internals are Fox. A 2.5 Fox replacement would be comparable to a King Race series in its seals, oils etc etc. King replacements are like a prerunner series, but Kings pull all the bros, I mean bitches so they are clearly the best. Not knocking King at all, it's a killer product but IMHO it isn't quite as refined or as well tested as Icon.

I'm a firm believer that if you grabbed 100 people and had them do a blind test drive in trucks with all 3 they 99 of them would not be able to tell you which was which, that should tell you how many people truly understand the digresive/progressive comparison. It's all "internet research" and you know what Abraham Lincoln said about the Internet...

End of the day it's all personal preference. Run what ever you want, it's all fundamentally the same shit with small differences here and there. I love how my truck drives and rides but popular opinion would probably tell you its stiff. It's totally different than the lady's 4runner which I'm currently driving while my truck is in the shop but her shocks have the exact same valving, lighter coils and no CDCs.

That's not even getting into why I ran them on the old truck. Extra 1.5" of front travel from a same location bolt in shock.

Forgot who was looking for the topper, but this one is nice. Im sure Connor or Jason could talk the guy down in price.

 

It looks like there is no front glass in that shell. Is that typical for newer ones? Mine has glass with a slider but it's an older shell.

On mine, I open both sliders if i want to get to the back and use the bike innertube seal trick if i want to leave it that way.Thanks

Anyone getting rid of some decent shocks? My rear shocks are bad and I have a feeling my front ones won't be much longer

 

I'll be swapping out my bilstein 5100 fronts (with ome 887 coils) and rears in the next few weeks.

 

I had the same issue recently, new shocks will make a huge difference.

 

Are the rear shocks compatible between 2nd and 3rd gen?
