I'm an Ex Jeep guy making the jump to Tacos.

I went to look at a new one today and it looks like an TRD off road and is advertised as such, but the VIN comes back as a SR/SR5. What gives? I've run a few TRD VINs through a decoder and some come back as SR/SR5, and some comeback as TRD's. Am I missing something?

Look for the inverter and e locker for an offroad. If it doesn't have either one of them then it's a SR5. Also all trd's are SR5

Did it have a hydraulic brake booster, crawl control, mts, etc?

Often they are bundled together, for instance my insurance quotes them the same "SR5/TRD/..." just verify it has crawl control/rear locker, grey fender flares, mirror turn signal and no scoop, etc. lots of ways to tell. The interior will also be different pattern and color scheme.

Thanks for the responses! Happy to be making the jump.

Is simply looking for crawl control a sure fire way to tell?

On a 3rd gen, yep, look for the dial up top of the headliner.

Offroads are technically upgraded SR5s early on they were selected from the SR5 package online.

Unless it has a Manual Trans then it will have A-Trac, the Rear Locker is another thing the OR will have.

I got no issues with mine, I still chuckle with some of the whining, my 16 was annoying with the delayed reverse to drive but TSB fixed that and both the 16 and 17 after learning driving habits are fine. Now that I'm away from Jersey traffic I wish I had the MT though.

I dont blame you, i live in a town with 3 stop lights and i prefer a MT. The few times ive had to drive in portland rush hour with a clutch makes it much less fun.
