i had service almost the whole time. i also had my gps running and it mapped every road we were on and only once did it crash..while we were on twigg road...which its never done before. Other the road they were camping on, than that road that we were on after we crossed 68 on the bridge, and the road where we all had to make the sharp right on to a muddy tight path after we left PawPaw, i had been on all those roads before. Still had a blast. Its only so much fun being that far from home on the bike but having a group of trucks made it a blast. I only have just a little more exploring to do. I had never done those three town creek crossings in my truck...but i've done them with other people before many years ago.

Did you guys mention headliner patches in your banter? I dont think anyone got to see all of mine. I have almost 80 of them now

If you don't want to spend the coin on a new head unit, check out gta car kits to add Bluetooth. I have one in my 2005 and it works flawlessly. Plugs into the rear of the headunit into some CD plug. Not sure if they're made for your truck though.

Double din is so worth all the annoyance. @2016 Tacoma SR was a big help in me figuring mine out.

But i do still need a micro bypass for the stupid parking brake wire so i can use my apps. ugh...

i had one of those for 30pin ipod integration that i got from Amazon. it worked flawlessly for 3 years until just recently when it wouldnt boot and i'd have to shut the truck off to get it to work again. For $35 though, it held me over.

The $400 in head unit dash kit, back up camera, wiring harness, and tools was so worth it though. also took about 14hrs of me cussing and dragging my feet because i hate wiring. But i must've done a good job as i ran music and bluetooth all day yesterday while we thrashed with zero issues

I need to get a double din. I really miss my backup camera, and once I get a cap and swing out it'll be missed even more.

I don't think I'll have to worry about that bypass in mine since it's a 99

depends on how new of a head unit you get. All double dins have that parking brake wire. The ones with nav have even more trickery to them, which is why i still use my garmin

Cross that bridge when I come to it plus I'm sure there's plenty of write ups on the 4Runner forums

I dislike caps on stock trucks, but on built up trucks with roof racks, bumpers, swing outs, etc I really like it. Plus I plan on using mine for sleeping in the back. The idea of being able to park and just hop in the back is very appealing to me.
