there is a big diff. in power between the 40 and 42 but since i don't drive mine around town a whole bunch i have no problem not using over drive around town and climbing hills on the highways.

Anyone know of or have recommendations for a company that makes custom pitman arms?

I only know of Sky, but they are not really custom, just different amounts of drop. They are shorter too, so less throw :(

I'm sure any machine shop could make you custom Cr-Mo arms, but that would be some serious money.
:edit: maybe not "any" shop. Forgot about the splines...

I have also seen just the splined ring, so you can weld your own. Which do you need? I might have the Sky 3/4 drop?

I'm not totally sure yet. I'm thinking one that has the same drop but 3/4" shorter. Once I get my new springs in I'll be able to measure.

Ha, that's great. I wheeled the Rubicon two weeks ago with Bill the previous owner of partsmike. I guess I'll give him a call.

Moab/CO was everything I could have hoped for. Rusty Nail was an awesome trail with some serious pucker factor

Great pics. Moab has one of the best wheeling spots in the country. Really amazing trails, the scenery is amazing.

Did the cage work the way you intended it? Any issues with it?

And yea...Parts Mike used to be one of the best vendors. Haven't purchased anything from them in years, but I remember their customer service being the best of the best.

No issues at all, minimal wind noise from it too. I put 400 miles on the Tacoma and 3100 miles on the Ford all said and done.

I thought Moab was a great experience and totally different from anything I've ever done but I'm not sure it was the end-all-be-all for me from a pure wheeling perspective. It was a lot less technical than I was expecting...mainly shelf climbs and descents. The difference was that a mistake is punished with hard rolls down cliffs. Lots of off camber too, the shelf leaving Rusty Nail and Tippy Point on 7 Mile Rim didn't phase the Tacoma much but it was downright uncomfortable in a friend's softly sprung FZJ80. I also wasn't a big fan of how long it took to get out and back from the trails. There was too much pounding down rocky roads that just beat the shit out of you and took forever...we never had huge issues but if there had been trouble on the trail, it would have made for some brutally long days.

We backed a trailer up the entire backside of rusty nail when we were out there in 2005 to recover a zj that tore a steering box off the frame, so recovery's are a bitch if you break bad enough for sure. It's a shame you guys didn't hit up the super remote trails and or elephant hill, the scenery out there far out weighs the wheeling IMO! For straight up hard trail wheeling, Black hills gets my vote if you want big ass rocks and technical crawling.

Also keep in mind what the trails where made in/for. Most trails where "hard" when 33s and 35s where considered a big tire years ago. Moab caters to the slightly modified/stock jeep class and if the trails are to hard people won't come.

For some good hard trails similar to Moab terrain, try sand hollow. More buggy trails and more obstacles on the trails.

Moabs cool for sightseeing, there is soooooo much out there to see, the vastness of the trail network is insane.
