2017 Tacoma or 2016 4x4 Offroad or TRD Pro?

I now have 16 Colorado diesel crew with 44k miles on it and trading in for a new zr2 gas crew or a trd pro or trd off road. I like my Colorado and been good truck. I am a Toyota person and like Toyota. Im fighting the seat comfort but in the Tacoma but they will let e have one for Saturday and we will put on at least 150 miles on it half hyw half city. See how we do compared to Colorado. Just two of us and as you can see I put 650 miles a week on my truck. One thing I i said have against the Colorado or chevy which is why back in 07 and said no more, But I wanted a smaller truck and it was comfortable . seats in Colorado are harder but adjustable and better position. Thing is over not perfect roads and any imperfections it is hollow sounding dash vibrations and annoying rattles. I mean a lot. on good roads it is quite and just some vibration rattles from dash. more keep coming daily. Question is the guys that have the trd pros and off roads is yours no rattles or vibrations and solid inside interior? Trade difference on zr2 sticker 44300 is 10500.00 and trade difference on off road with tech is 10500.00 and 13000 on the trd pro. pro stickers same as zr2 and trd off road stickers at 41500.00.

 

Hmmm good thoughts. I personally wanted an Off-Road vs. a Pro. I saved money, modded, and still feel very comfortable going anywhere as a Pro would.

There is a few key differences.
Pro: No Jbl, no sunroof
OR: no leather

That is what I saw. The shocks on both models are very capable. I feel like an OR will be cheaper even with some mods Good luck!

 

the pro doesn't have a jbl? I want JBL. Main thing is does the Tacoma after 17 months have lots of interior vibrations and rattle sounds going over anything other than smooth road? That is my biggest problem. Oh and plus the rear end squeaks over any bumbs or just backing out . needs springs greased I guess. Just feels hollow now after 43k miles and after I hit 1 yr 36k they started coming out of wood work.

 

Get a TRD OR. I just rode 200 miles in a Colorado and suspension is very weak compared to the Taco. Interior isnt even in same league. You'll see on your test drive.

 

are you all getting any interior vibrations or rattles after yr or 36k. is interior still solid and quite?

I have had 3 third gens... I live a mile and a half from any pavement and off road a few times every week... All 3 of my Tacomas have had random rattles. Before 5k miles. Dash, glove box, headliner, door panel... I have been able to find and fix these rattles but they do have rattles.

And the leaf springs need to be cleaned and lubed or they squeak. All models. If you get dirt and mud in them they will squeak. All of mine did by 5000 miles. My 2017 4x4 squeaked the first week i owned it. But again.. I drive in lots of dirt, lots of mud...

That being said... I keep getting another tacoma because i love the trucks.

correct had one in Dec and hurt my neck and back but come to find out wasn't truck issue I just had frozen shoulder and nerves in neck jammed and over last year had fixed and went through physical therapy so I am sure that was just more my health at time. Postion on the seats just made the conditions harder on me till I got fixed.

 

If the price is the same and you drive a lot and residue value matters (trade up often) I'd go tacoma all the way.

I find it strange how close the prices are between the zr2 and pro in the USA. Here in Canada it's like close to 10 grand cheaper to get a zr2

 

wow that is crazy 10k cheaper for zr2. unreal. yes I do trade every 2 yrs is my normal about 60k. It is the magic mark for me with miles I put on and cost to run it is about same even if I keep it 5 yrs once you add in normal maintaince and hoping nothing big breaks. I am leaning towards going tacoma. I will take one Saturday for wife and I and if good make a final deal and see how long to get the pro or go trd off road but prefer pro id like the cement.

 

For a difference of 2500 I would surely go with the pro. You can get an exclusive color (cement, IF you like that) and you can get black leather heated seats which you cannot get in any other model from the factory. At a 2500 dollar difference, you'll never go less than that on how much more it'll hold it's value. Plus if you do want to change suspension or anything, the pro gives you something that'll re coop some mod money. Trd OR stock suspension is throw away parts when removed.

*I'll add that everyone is going to tell you to get whatever they got. You know what you want, be it OR or PRO. Just get what you like.

You put 650 miles a week on? Do you have the diesel now, what was your mpg?

 

Love the Pro. Concerning the ride and noise; my Pro is a much quieter, smoother ride than my Gen 2 was. Truly rides and sounds very nice

 

The pro is only better if you get cement and remove all of the stick on shit.

Other than that.. get a TRDOR and build it like a man.

 

Wait- you are considering a ZR2 or a Taco Pro?

First- I'd wait a year or two. Keep the diesel Colorado in the meanwhile. See what bugs are in the ZR2 first.
Second- A ZR2 is technically a superior rig from the factory vs. a TRD Pro. There are some damn good reviews of the ZR2 out there, and it flat ass performs.

If you don't want to mod the shit out of a rig- the ZR2 has a lot to offer. If you can choke the depreciation. But if you're trading a newer Colorado now- it would seem you are okay with that. The only thing a TRD-Pro has over the ZR2? A better approach angle.

If you want to mod the shit out of a rig- the Toyota is the way to go. Way better aftermarket support for it.

My dealer is getting in a ZR2 and they told me I could run it for a test, heh-heh.... Can't wait. 30 days to go.... A diesel ZR2 would be a perfect rig for Montana. Long stretches of highway where mpg and range is important, and technical mountain crap where that low end torque would be incredible. And front and rear locking diff's. Whoo-Boy...

 

You're unlikely to find a Tacoma to be much of an improvement over your Colorado aside from interior aesthetics and fit and finish. You're really going to miss the torque. I'd follow the wait it out recommendation.
