After doing a little more research, it appears that the selection of stainless steel fasteners may not be the best choice for assembling this aluminum rack. Perhaps a better selection would be zinc plated steel fasteners. Over the long term, the stainless steel screws will cause the aluminum to corrode if not fully protected from wet or humid conditions (especially salty air if you live near the coast). I'm sure anti seize on the stainless screws would help, but I'm personally thinking of procuring zinc plated ones for when my rack is delivered. Comments?

Never seize will be fine. Or blue loctite. Moisture has to be present for a reaction to take place. Aluminum is actually the anodic metal, so what you're having is the threads in the aluminum bar being sacrificed.

Going with zinc will just have the corrosion happen in reverse. Ultimately you'll still end up with corrosion between threads if left unprotected.

Long story short, never seize is about $15, and you will knock it over before you even come close to using all it. Reapply if you go submarining with your truck or live in a rainforest. Otherwise don't sweat it.

My custom brackets- had a dual row bar 2 days ago, just replaced with this single row.

Yes, moisture has to be present.

However, I'd rather have the zinc threads in the fastener corroding than the aluminum threads in the cross bars getting eaten up. Actually, since the zinc and aluminum are much closer together on the nobility of metals chart than stainless and aluminum are, corrosion will take place at a slower rate when moisture is present, all things being equal. I still plan on using zinc plated fasteners along with never seize. Face it, over the years, flexing and bending will occur from use, and moisture surely will find its way in on some areas of the rack without submarining. One rainy day is all it takes.

If you read in detail fastening Aluminum with SS you will see that SS Bolts in an Aluminum base is considered safe while Aluminum Bolts in a SS base is considered unsafe. To keep the Aluminium/Stainless mix ok the rules are:
    • Keep the Stainless part small and Aluminium part large (Stainless screws into Aluminium not Aluminium screws into Stainless).
    • Ideally, keep electrolytes like salt-water away from where these metals are in contact
    • And separate the 2 metals in contact by using Tef-Gel or antiseize to create a barrier between them (especially on boats and near salt-water).
So to answer the question are Stainless Steel Screws into Aluminium ok? Yes…but so long as you follow the rules

If you are still worried even with this you can do what I did and get black oxide coated SS bolts. The black Oxide adds a layer of protection over the SS. I additionally used antiseize. You can find the bolts I used here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/alternate-hw-extras-etc-for-prinsu.498163/

Great link! I noted that in that first post, you state that Prinsu uses "black zinc bolts" to begin with. If that's the case, I feel absolutely comfortable using what they supply with their racks, in addition to the anti seize. I was under the mistaken idea that plain stainless bolts were used when I saw the corroded bolt and crossbar in a previous post in this thread.

Awesome post with all the links for the different suppliers of fasteners for the Prinsu rack! Thanks!

Oh I didn't know CBI was doing these now. I just liked trolling the guys in the last GB for these. They'd get so pissed when you brought up another GB hahaha

I just need to buy one of these as well

    YES you do! lol

I should be installing all of mine middle of next month hopefully. Dreading how much of a PITA my brake lines are going to be (swapping to SS lines front and rear)

I am going to try my hand at the single person bleed. The clear hose over the bleeder into a bottle with some brake fluid in the bottle. The video on youtube made it look super simple

Does anyone secure a canoe with the provided eye bolts that came with the rack (the ones with the carriage bolts)? If so, do you attach to these bolts to the crossbars (via the carriage bolts) or install the eye bolts to the outside of the side rails.

Doesn't seem to me like these bolts would be strong enough to not bend or break with the loads from a canoe while driving. Just intuition. But strapping it down would be much easier then looping up and under the crossbars.

I didnt trust those eyebolt to carry my SUPB, would not trust them for a canoe either. I just hook the straps to the side rails.

Who has a tray style bike rack mounted on a Prinsu rack? Pics? Want to throw one-two extra bikes up on top for longer trips.

They are SOS concepts bolt on, but I had them add fill plates and set them at Zero degrees to access the rack easier and so the dogs and wife could use them as steps.
